Title: audio........talk to me!
Post by: JackG on July 21, 2011, 09:37:30 pm
hi guys, ive recently decided that i am going to trick the ed30 out with a decent set up of audio
its a 2008 ed30 with the 10 speaker system, i worked for halfords a few years ago fitting all the audio but mainly fitted stuff like vibe, fli, alpine etc so dont have any knowledge of stuff like hertz,JL,rainbow etc etc
i would like some high end stuff like JL audio (please suggest more if you think there is decent stuff) i know the front speakers are 16.5cm but what are the rest of the speakers sizes that are in the 10 speakers system? i take it it may some 13's in the front door aswell as the 16.5? and what about the rear doors?

i will get a few amps to power it all but i would like some decent speaker suggestions if youd be so kind!  :drinking:

The products you suggested are all good speakers,I settled for ground zero the nuclear range in mine as it could handle the bass I was after..As you know the best change Will the the header unit, like the Kenwood or alpine

I guess the biggest thing would be is.

What music do you listen to?
Do you like it loud?
Do you like it Bass heavy?
How much space are you willing to sacrifice?
Will you be installing this yourself?
Are you wanting to replace the headunit? or stay with factory?

Those are but a few question needing to be answered, then additional advice could be provided.

Then Happily offer advice and go from there.

Ive got a 12" audiobahn running  alighting amp i had lying about the garage,

Trouble is, everytime i play Twista - Overnight Celebrity > its melts the amp and i have to let it cool down for an hour or 2 :(

Im crap with Audio, need a bigger AMP but dont know what, where etc to buy?

Ok, at least that gives me something to work with.

JL Audio is nice gear, but it has a very specific sound. You either like it or you don't.
Have any of you guys even consider going 8" or 10" subs?

If 10" is what you are after or would just like to over the moon with single sub application, get A Image Dynamics IDMax10V3. Run single and ported enclosure, moved my brother from 2x12 to single one of these. He can't believe how much better the sub sound and way louder too.

These subs really can play any music, plus are SQL (sound Quality, Sound pressure level).

Otherwise if you want retain as much space as possible, go to either 2x JBLGTO804 or new Alpine Type R 8" x3 in 1.5ft3 ported tuned to 32hz.

As for speakers, Hertz HSK163.4, not entirely a drop in solution but you need to make a spacer for the midbass.
If you want a drop in solution that still performs exceptionally well. Rainbow IQ325.20. From memory that is the replacement kit. That is a true drop in solution.

Otherwise depending on your budget, go for DLS or Focal. To name a few.

This at least gets you started into think what is available.

My plans would be to add component speakers all round were required all ran of the amp (6ch) so all 10 speakers would be replaced and running what they should be in terms of power

My speaker budget per set would be around £250/ £270 I've heard good things about hertz but not really heard them  :signLOL:

I had a vibe cbr 10 in my old car, very good sub but too loud ( like being hit over the head with a brick as opposed to the being punched with a boxing glove of a 12)
The plan would be two 12 inch subs built into a tuned false floor fully insulated and soundproofed with dynamat.....
If hertz would supply better speakers than the JL audio interms of branded costs then I'll go down the hertz route  :drinking:
Another worry I've now got is weight! I want it to be a fairly decent track car when required as I want to go stage 3 at some point  :fighting:
This bloody slippery slope!! :fighting: :fighting2:

If you want the bass with the ability of track days etc. Go with a single IDMax10V3.
Seriously it's seriously good.

I don't really know the prices in the UK, don't live there at all.
So will have a look at what's available in your price range.
