Stupid question, but i have just bought some apparently new coil packs from ebay, should there be any grease at the end which fits over the plugs and would they totally smooth on metal, ie no
-
Has no hot one bought any new coil packs? I'm not convinced the guy was totally honest no ebay
-
I bought new ones 12 months ago and they indeed has new grease on the ends on them
-
What exactly is a coil pack? I noticed VW changed mine when it was serviced recently, some recall apparently...
-
yes all petrol vw and audi engines 1.8 and above are under the vw recall, you should check with your dealer and get them swapped out if needed, you shouldnt need to buy any
-
Just had mine changed under recall! dont even know what they do :ashamed:
-
What was the recall related to guys?
-
Coil Packs basically increase the voltage (think that is the right term) from the spark to a level higher enough to ignite the fuel in the cylinder

Think people have had problems with some of the coilpacks, think people have experienced misfires at low revs.
Not 100% sure, no issues with mine but still booked in for them to be changed. Cant pass up opportunity for a full set of coilpacks free of charge lol.
-
My coilpacks were spotless when I bought them from VW last week. There was grease on the ones I removed though!
-
In terms of the recall do i just contact vw and mention the misfire?
Was there a recall code?
-
They used to be called ht leads and plug caps connected to a distributor and coil.
They dumped all that for a coil pack which, I believe although maybe some gubbins in between, connect to the ECU directly to the coil pack which plugs into the spark plug.

Do a search for it but there was no official recall. Coilpacks would be swapped out if required at service time. Best thing is to go in and ask.

I called into my parts department for a seal under the bonnet and asked about prices for coil packs. The guy actually said I think there was a recall about these, let me go check. Result...booked in tomorrow morning.

Recall was released on febuary of this year, coil packs break down internally and give missfire and your eml light,
-
Picked up my car this afternoon with four brand new coil packs curtesy of the recall/service issue and bearing in mind my cars not been near a VW garage in 3 years and nearly 60k miles I think thats not a bad result. :happy2:
