Just announced on breaking news.
Sky Sports will show all F1 races Live next year. Bit of a downer as i now have to pay £10-15 a month extra (which i will only be doing during the season) to watch F1 :fighting: But all sessions will be shown in HD
BBC will show some races & qualifying and will show highlights
-
I don't get sky sports and I won't be up grading just to watch the f1,wonder who will be presenting the program
-
So we'll no doubt be treated to vacuous fools with microphones in the paddock (instead of Eddie Jordan ), and 5 minute ad breaks during racing, just like ITV did. That's a shame, the BBC coverage is spot on, and they deserve to keep the rights. As a victim of it's own popularity, F1 was always going to go the way of the Premier League. Especially with that wizened midget Ecclestone at the helm. Watching Top Gear at Monaco, I actually hoped that Clarkson would put that Citroen DS3 in the harbour & take Ecclestone with him. He did for Ross Kemp in a Twingo, was it too much to ask to rid us of that leathery little turd?
I'll stick to the BBC highlights. I used to have Sky Sports for the British Superbike coverage, but it sure wasn't worth the extra.
Also on breaking news, BSkyB announce profits of £1 billion for financial year ending 2011 this morning. And another £15 a month of us? Not likely. Pay per view Olympics next?
The announcement is that BBC will show half the races (including the British GP) live, and highlights of the others, sharing the rights with BSkyB. :sad1:
-
That is tragic. The current line up on the BBC is spot on. Lee McKenzie
Sky will make a pigs ear out of it just like ITV did. :sad1:
-
It gets worse though.
They have the coverage for 6 years :sad1: :sad1:
-
Does sky player boadcast HD, through the Xbox? Hopefully use Dads Sky account details to watch sky that way, otherwise have enough with FreesatHD
Shame. :sad1:
-
I don't think Sky Player does HD.

Well that has well and truely ruined my day.. :sad1: I thought Mr Humphries and his crew did a cracking job tbh and the features they included actually made me watch the whole lead up to the race too. Rather than just park my arse on the settee at 12:58pm..
A sad sad day.. :sad1:
-
Its a shame, i warned about this in the formula 1 thread a few months ago, did not think it would be announced so soon.
They ruined cricket, so many more people watched it when channel 4 had the great coverage, at least the bbc get to keep half the races but still im sure the line up will be effected
Sad day
-
Very poor form. I ain't getting sky just to watch the F1 that's fit sure, it's not exciting enough. BTCC FTW!
-
Commercial suicide IMO. The beeb coverage is at the top of the game. All comes down to money tho. I for one will not be upgrading to sky sports to watch it.
-
Yep, completely sh*t news. Sadly I think this might signal the end of my interest in the Sport.
-
Thats a shame. I have loved watching it on the BBC.
Will not be paying the extra to watch it on Sky.
Will just have to see if the Mclaren sign in woking is turned red when Jenson or Lewis win a race.

Think I ran past that, is it not far from Blackwater / Camberley?
-
You can't miss it. It's a great big sign outside the entrance
-
Lived there about 4 years ago :ashamed:
........TAXI
-
Well its in Woking so not too far from Black water/Camberly.
Its outside the factory which makes the New Mclaren road cars. Get to see alot of them being road tested around here.
They have been turning the sign red when they win a race since Lewis won the championship.
-
I have sky sports and I'm still gutted about this as already said the BBC line up was spot on,
I dread to think which clown will present it
-
Thats a shame as the past 2 years I've just started to get into the F1!, it's spot on with BBC. I do not have sky nor any intention of geting it., Yep, more about the money than the fans. :sad1:
-
Wonder if they will do it in 3D too?
That would make a difference, but I still love the current line-up for commentary just as it is.
-
3D F1. That would be good. Imagine the camera shots they do from the kerbs.
Will think a car is coming in to your lounge at 180mph
-

I echo above:(
I tune in to watch the BBC team and I love the fact there are no adverts. I will never pay the extra for sky sports as I just can't justify the cost just to watch f1. Truly gutted
-
The cynic in me doubts this will do anything but you never know.

Its an absolute travesty. Im so gutted about this. My favourite sport on TV and its been ruined. I have Sky, but i refuse to upgrade to Sky Sports just to watch the F1.

And who is going to just watch the BBC coverage to see half the season. You wouldn't watch 45 minutes of a football game.
I won't be watching next year.

I heard this on the Radio this morning and was disgusted and upset, typical bloody berney he nearly ruined the British Grandprix with his money grabbing ruined another circuit and business by over-loading them with debt and building work they couldnt complete. And now he is about to ruin the whole sport by taking it away from being viewed by all!
Only hope is the teams or circuits revolting, I know the teams have sought confirmation of the deal as the amount of money they get for advertising on the cars is directly proportional to the viewing figures and being on a paid for premium channel will reduce them and there advertising revenues! The circuits will be the same they have to pay bernie to be on the calender and part of there revenue is the circuit advertising which will also be worth less. :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting: :fighting:
-
Don't have sky & will never get sky.
So highlights & the odd race on BBC for me.
-
Bernie Ecclestone is a sell out! Money grabbing, swindling corrupt old man... he has ruined it for the fans!
-
They may poach some of the BBC crew, I believe Brundle will be out of contract this year. Plenty of time for them to get the right team in place, fingers crossed they get it right.
I'm not a particular fan of Ecclestone as he will always follow the money, but TBH his dictatorship has made F1 the global sport it is now and made the teams (and himself) wealthy, so commercially he is usually spot on.
If they manage not to interrupt the race with adverts (like they do with the football) it might not be too bad.
I did the F1 Pay-per-view a few years back and the coverage was excellent with multiple camera angles etc., so I'm waiting to see how it is structured before coming off the fence. :popcornsoda:

....I'm gutted as well! BBC coverage has been excellent on all counts.
I ain't putting any money in scumbag Murdoch's pocket whether HD or not. Ironically there hasn't been anything on BBC1/2 I've wanted to watch for the last 3 evenings. "Our War" on BBC3 is all I've watched since Monday and there's nothing on tonight either! How much is a TV licence!?
-
Just hope that Sky put it on SS1 or SS2 so us Virgins can see it in HD :scared:

I for one am very pleased we (Sky) have got the deal.. Being staff.. :ashamed:
I'm sure Sky will make a good job of doing decent in depth coverage, what we would like BBC to cover, but unfortunately, the BBC cannot afford to show each race, as like someone mentioned, the olympics are gonna cost a lot, so that affects their budget.
3D will be a very good possibility ...
Put it another way, buckets of money WILL be spent to bring top quality coverage and no doubt interative features that the BBC simply can't afford.
look forward to seeing who Sky choose to head this..
Gutted for the BBC, they have done a stirling job thus far...after ITV almost ruined it.

I doubt there will be any 3D coverage. The F1 coverage is all provided by Bernies empire, and they have only just switched to HD after Bernie refused to think there was any need for it.

Sky wont be providing the coverage. All the cameras belong to the FIA. They are just fed to whoever gets the deal to broadcast the footage.
-
i wasnt a big fan when ITV had it. I hated the adverts and the poor coverage. BBC coverage is outstanding, the mix of commentators work so well together, covering all the aspects of F1 from different perspectives is brilliant. Plus they do all the technical features with brundle etc.
I have Sky Sports anyway so its not an issue for me as long as the standard of coverage stays the same.
Please dont get rid of Mrs McKenzie, unless its for cameron diaz or equal

This is the first year I have really got into it as was a massive bike fan for years.
I have not got sky and have no intentions of paying the quite simply extortionate prices either.
This is bad for F1 as it's just getting really popular again which I think is down to the excellent coverage and no adverts.
Really sad day IMHO. :sad1:

Quite annoyed at this news! :fighting: What a bloody shame! I wont be paying for Sky Sports.......I hope its a loss for them.

Like others I'm really pi$$ed at the BBC letting this go! I'm sure they will still have the money to make awful daytime DIY shows and mindless chav chat shows, as well as strictly dancing muppets and all the other sh*t!! I have always been an F1 fan but the BBC and the presenting team have taken this to another level of enjoyment for me. That little fookin weasel Ecclestone wants flogging as he is taking this mighty sport away from genuine fans who aren't inclined to line Murdoch's filthy pockets!!! :fighting: :fighting:
Charge the BBC less and keep it where it belongs!!! :fighting: :fighting:
Really has spoilt my day today!! :fighting2:
-
heard about his on the way home from work, well p*ssed off.
Sky isn't that bad but you then have to also pay for the premium channels like sky sports on top just to watch it, which i won't be.
-
Its not that much of a big deal for me to get Sky Sports. I have been doing the maths.
Currently pay £50.75 for Sky+ HD with Movies.
I also pay £21.50 to Virgin Media for broadband.
So thats £72.25 total.
To swap to Sky + HD with Movies/Sports and unlimited Broadband with phone line rental included, it will cost me £82 p/m. Only an increase of about £10. Plus i could knock off a couple of the other channel bundles that i dont want, which would reduce it down to £80. So all in for £80 i can live with, just a £7.75 increase to get F1 coverage all year round.
However, for those that dont already have or cant afford Sky, its going to be gutting.
-

Or of course those who simply refuse to have anything to do with the Murdoch Empire*
* No offense intended Steve

Currently pay £50.75 for Sky+ HD with Movies.
....Jeeze!! Is that per month!? :surprised:
You must watch quite a lot of telly (including movies via telly).
This week I've only watched "Neighbours" and about 3 other progs max. I'll watch the whole of BBC1's F1 coverage both days of this weekend but that's probably all.

Yes it is, and still cheaper than it would be with Virgin media to provide everything the same. It works out about £3 more expensive via Virgin. This is without any kind of multi room package too. Just one box.
The wife and i used to spend a fortune going to the cinema, so we decided to be patient and watch less films at the box office, and wait for more to come on sky. So we get good value out of it.

im Paying £75 a month to SKY already. Telly Phone & Braoadband. Just changed to this recently saying me £30 a month on what i was paying for phone and broadband seperately. However i dont have sports on that package cos i have absolutely no interest in round ball games and I wont be upgrading for F1 either.
Ive yet to hear anyone other than sky employees & Bernie say this is going to be better for the sport

.
No mention, so far, of the future broadcasting changes from the BBC team at today's Quali.
-
.
A very subtle and oblique reference from Martin Brundle during Quali commentating: "I wonder which drivers will be joining us in the job seeker's queue next year?" said to David Coulthard. So it seems their futures on TV coverage aren't at all settled yet and they are feeling insecure. Not that they don't have other sources of income.
-
Brundle will head over to Sky with a fat new contract!!
-
Not many mentions of the clouds in the 'SKY' either!!
-
Brundle will head over to Sky with a fat new contract!!
cant really blame any of them if they do jump ship if theres a garenteed job
-
Gutted! BBC1 coverage is great. :sad1:
-
.
Hopefully Jake's Twitter will be awash with complaints on Sunday's Red Button about BBC selling out to Sky.
-
They won't say much anyway, as Martin Brundle tweeted yesterday
'In answer to many tweets no you won't hear much from us re future TV deals this w/end. Our job is to tell F1 story, not talk about ourselves'
-
Just read an article over on Autosport and the teams accept the decision
http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93507 (http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/93507)
But Imo the director of Pirelli motorsport has hit the nail on the head from the sponsors side of things.
Pirelli's director of motorsport Paul Hembery said he was eager to know whether F1's viewership would be hurt by the move to pay television.
"It is more to do with viewing figures from our point of view, as we look at it from the sponsors' view," he told AUTOSPORT. "The more people that watch it, the better it is for us.
But what he and the rest of the sponsors are thinking is whats a few million UK viewers when theyre about to get back into the US
Ben

I too would like the coverage to stay fully with the BBC but it's not Sky's fault. The BBC has to answer to us lot on what it spends, and the costs for F1 are huge, they simply cant justify the cost in todays economic enviroment. I also think we should wait and see how sky cover it. I am not a fan of sky had many a phone call to India were the call centre people and me both end up crying. :signLOL: But one thing you cant fault is there sports coverage, apart form the adverts they do a decent job. :happy2:
And i certainly wont complain if it's Kirsty Galllagerrrr in the pit lane instead of Miss Mck'enzie.
-
It really doesn't matter to me how Sky cover it.
I cannot justify/afford Sky TV's extortionate costs.
Bernie has enough money surely? Or are those high maintenance daughters bleeding him dry?
Real shame for me as I have been really enjoying it.
