Hello folks. I'm considering doing something to the suspension. I want to lower the car, but want to retain some comfort. I had kw v1s on my mk4, and it was very harsh.
I had considered eibach or H&r springs, but do they change ride quality too much? And for the work involved, is it worth buying dampers, or going for a coilover kit?
Thanks in advance for any advice :happy2:
-
I'm running Koni FSD shocs with H&R springs, your more than welcome to have a ride out and see what you thinkof them, Dom :happy2:
-
H&R springs with blisten B8's
Ran the springs for 6 months before adding the dampers
Was fine with stock shocks but a definate improvment with the bilstens on (as you'd expect)
Only changed them as was advised the stock dampers would fail faster with lowering springs
But glad i did all the same :happy2:
-
Think I'll go with the H&r springs, what drop did you go for Damien? I'll price up some bilstein shocks, as I'm sure the fsds were pricey. What is the ride like with those on? Did you all buy new bearings aswell, or just use what was on?
-
Ride is great
far better than stock IMO
Same bearings :happy2:
-
The new B12 stuff is faptastic. The old B12 stuff was one of the best sub £1k kits available.
Remember to spec the springs by axle weight
-
Never had an issue with either Eibach springs on the Eddy or H&R on the .:R on standard springs. Much stiffer with less bodyroll but not compromising comfort. :happy2:
-
lowering = loss of ride comfort
This is simple physics.
-
Dom, my kit was fitted to the car just before I got itso cant compair it to standard.
After having coilovers on previous cars the current setup is great. As I already said, your more than welcome to have a ride out to see what you think.
Check out Damian@DPM for some good prices http://www.dpmperformance.co.uk/golf-5-05-09-springs-shocks-c-1909_1945_2124.html

iv fitted apex 35mm springs thats it. looks just right and hasn't affected the ride comfort.

I just went with the eiback sportlines with oem dampers.
Well impressed with the ride, same as stock, lowered to the right amount aswell, £135 delivered, bargain

Considering these myself - any chance pics please? :happy2:
-
I will do after it stopped raining and have washed the car , 27mm drop front and rear is what I measured from before and after
-
Weird stuff with the post order / editing
Ride height looks great - I'll have to get an order placed :happy2:
-
motorsportworld was the cheapest I could find :happy2:
-
Are these easy to fit? anyone have a how to guide?
-
Rears take about 30mins, I got a garage to do the fronts, they had a nightmare trying to get the strut out, so I'm glad I didnt attempt it.
heres a guide off the net http://www.swankmonkey.com/vw/jetta/2006/suspension/

Notice much difference in ride? IE is it girlfriend approved!!
-
Same as stock. Thats why I didnt want to go down the coilover route, my last car was horrific on KWs. The eibach pro kit is stiffer than the sportline kit, so make sure you get the right one if you want a comfy ride :happy2:
-
So you think that H R springs are perfect to take a few MM off and still keep same ride?
-
No idea, I bought eibach sportlines!!!
you might get an extra 3mm with the H&R's, but I'm sure they're supposed to be stiffer, and cost an extra £85. I couldnt justify £85 for 3mm :popcornsoda:
When my dampers die anyway, I'll be getting some Koni FSD's or H&R B8's, these springs are matched to go with the B8's anyway in the B12 Kit, so youre money at the end of the day.
-
Sorry didn't read t wrong. I had Eibachs on my MK4 and they were great! What site did you get them from?i
-
Any idea which go lower? The sportlines or the pro kit? They are 130 - 160 off awesome which i didnt think is too bad!
-
Sportlines are lower
Very nice springs, although, not quite low enough for me now :chicken:
