Title: Should I hear a noise from my dv?
Post by: m4t_lee on August 01, 2011, 06:57:56 pm
I read about people noticing a tshhhhhh sound from the dv, mine I'm sure doesn't make any noise, when I accelerate I hear the turbo whistle, if I let off the accelerator I still hear the turbo whistling, when I depress the clutch is just spools down, is this right or should it be doing something else?

Cheers guys,

Mat

I have an EVOMs fitted and a stage 1 remap, under acceleration I hear the intake sucking in air and the turbo whistle, when I lift off there is a sound similar to a dump valve but I think that is the wastegate expelling air???  AFAIK the DV fitted to the TFSi engine is the recirculating type so it shouldn't make any noise.

I get a little hiss which is sometimes louder than others. Generally notice it more if I'm giving it a pasting.

The DV's found on the early GTI's, 05 plate like mine, make a nice little 'sneeze' when you let off.  Its very subtle but there.  Later diaphram type DV's didn't do this and I understand the piston types don't either.

You'll hear it more with an aftermarket intake.
As said above my 2005 DSG made a slight hiss on lift off, but now makes a loud blow off sound with my forge twintake. Not to everyones taste I must admit. I'm still a little uncertain myself if it sounds to "boy racerish". It made a good bhp difference with my custom map though.
