Bought mine second hand. Dealer had to import it from another dealer, so didn't get things knocked off but did get things included.

On the forecourt cars (some of which were nicely specced but the wrong colour), dealer was trying to knock £2-2.5k off the forecourt price to entice me. I stuck to my guns because I wanted a black car, otherwise I'd be driving a fully-specced red 5dr ED30.

....

I didn't bother to negotiate as back in 05 there wasn't much, if any, discount to be had. Besides, I've been getting huge discounts/freebies from my VW dealer ever since - No complaints from me.

Anyway, I never negotiate anything and I often get given discount and goodies following on without asking.

When I was running my own business, if someone asked for discount I'd politely show them the door.

£500 of the dealer price for a late May 2008 registered 5 door, manual, edition 30 with 6000 miles on the clock, collecting April 3rd. I do have to pay for the car before 31 March due to their sales targets.

To add to this,  via my employer I have access to a company who secure cars from group stocks, but they could not find any cars of the same spec at even the same price.

i've seen two different cars (without saying what car etc.)
1. used £15250 at VW
2. used £11995 at a Volvo dealer

i wonder if they listen to over £1k discount or not

But was the discount on factory spec cars or did you pick the options?

only wiggled my way out of £200 but i would have paid more for her, the dealer was a total legend knowing i had been after a Candy .:R32 for almost 2 years and calling me the moment i could have one, threw in a few goodies for the car rather than discounts, very happy though, no complaints

I got £2500 off my used GTI, from a VW dealer too!  I also got book price for my trade in :)

I walked in armed with reams of adverts for cars in my price bracket and they buckled!

got 1k off my 6 month old pirelli from a vw dealer on the understanding i financed it, of which i did for 1 month then paid off the whole lot. So if you want a good deal go for the finance way then pay it off!

that only works if theres no penalty for early completion
