Hi,
I wondered if anyone on here has previously or does run a B7 RS4 saloon, and had any useful info about owning / driving / running / modifying it?
Thanks
-
Teutonic_Tamer does/did but not seen him on here for a while.
-
Moding is not impossible but to get decent results takes a lot of money, not owned one but my mate has had both B5 and B7 and has also had the avante, saloon and cabrio so I could ask if you need any knowledge,
Coil packs are prone to going, also look on RS246.com really good website.

Coil packs - they never go on a Mk5!!!
Thanks, I'm a member on RS246 from when I had the S3.
-
My mate had a 07 rs4 saloon 2 clutches and dmfs with in 2 years
-
I had an 07 avant back in 2008/09. Did 7000 miles in 6 months, well my wife did most the miles running the kids around. 16mpg!! Brakes cost a fortune. It needs a Milltek, as it sounds amazing. Other than that one of the most amazing capable cars I've owned, very hard to find the limits, as it just goes and sticks.....
I'd have another one tomorrow, my mates just got one and I took it out the other night -just amazing.
-
Not as fast as it looks on paper but an amazing all round car if you dont mind being beaten in a straight line duel by hothatches
-
A guy we do some work for owned one prior to a GTR and the 997 GT3 he currently drives. He still rates it highly preferring it to the GTR (which he only ended up owning for 6 months). Indeed the opinion from most of the motoring press is that it is the best RS car they've made, at odds with the car it was based on. And I could certainly take being beaten in a straight-line by a hot hatch if the pay off was driver involvement and character.
-
I had a b7 S4 convertible same 4.2 V8 without the turbos
Take a look at DMS Autos (totton) near Southampton they have done a lot of research on the RS4
-
The rs4 b7 doesn't have any turbos either.
Dms are brilliant, but I don't think theyll be able to do much with the rs4 tbh as its normally aspirated.

I was thinking the same!!!

I have a B5 RS4 Avant and use www.Audisrs.com there is loads of good info on there.
As mentioned above, poor fuel consumption, coil packs, suspension failing, expensive disc and pad replacement etc etc.
RS's in general they're quite expensive to run everyday but well worth it IMHO! :driver:

Still love the B5!got any pics of yours??
-
Sorry I thought they did
Did I get mixed up with the b5 that had twin turbos?
-
My mate still owns his B5 RS4 but its having a new race engine put into it that spits out 800hp with 200hp of computer controlled nos :jumping: I remember driving it on the original engine and that had near on 550hp and by eck old on to ya pants that was fast :signLOL: although he does have a scooby at the moment that is faster :happy2:
Supercharged RS4 B7
Darren
-
I wanted to supercharge an rs4 b7 we had in the family 5 years back.
I phoned Mtm and they pretty much said well we developed the kit but it costs a fortune to make so we're not going to offer it for sale. I pushed them and they said it would cost about 45k! Lol
It sounds epic though!

Only a tuned hot hatch.
-
My mate sold his B7 RS4 recently, Full Miltek + DMS tuned. It ran de-cats for a while which sounded great but annoying after a while.
They are awesome to drive, a big car but feel well planted and sound great. 18-20MPG knocking round town

It's sitting a bit lower now than it did in these pictures but I'll need to raise it slightly now the PSS9's have settled.

Thanks for replies. Read up on some of the issues, and got square eyes and pounded ears trawling through YouTube footage.
Will have to go for a test drive and see if it properly floats my boat. :driver:
-
Don't be tempted to just take a quick 10-20mins these cars need a good couple of hours to get used to get a good test drive and even see if you can have a 24hour if the sales guy knows your interested i'm sure they'll accommodate you.
Darren
-
Thanks. Will be looking to go for test drives in a couple of weeks, just reading up on them now and doing some price research!!
-
I had the RS4 on 05 plate - will upload some pics shortly.
What can I say? other than love at first sight. It was a purchase through nothing more than a WANT, hence whhy it was sold 6-7 months later. I loved everthing about it and would have one tomorrow at the drop of a hat! I just think they are special.
Why was it sold? COST!
I do a lot of miles, I was spending £150 a week on fuel.
The service interval came up and it was jaw dropping! That was a basic service with pads.
Had someone try break into it twice
Insurance......and so on
The of reasons not to have one is endless.......only one reason to have one 'WANT/LOVE'
and to rub it in, my boss now has the RS5 < and he's a cock :sad1:
-
Fuel and servicing are the only RS4 minus points so far for me, though my current GTi is the first car I've had in years that will average 30mpg so not too scared of V-Power bills as have reference points with my previous R32's and 911's, plus my yearly mileage has reduced by half so even the thought of subsidising Shell's shareholders isn't putting me off!!
The WANT factor is outweighing everything else at present!!
-
The WANT factor - 9/10 will always win
I sat down with the bills, and it was like having a second morgage.... :sad1:
Heart < would go out on my lunch today and just get one :jumping:
Head < Just not practical for me :sad1: hence the GT TDI....and I love it.
-
I may have got the 'B' numbering mixed up, but Evo magazine ran a RS4 on their fast fleet 2/3 years back, seem to remember it was a 56 plate, a bright red saloon it was.
I only mention this as their site has all the old reports on cars previously run, so would give a little insight into the general living with and running of these. Of course a 56 plate RS4 may not be a B7, so all the above could be useless to you.
If so ignore all this.
Seem to recall they had a lorry roll onto it and up over the bonnet, scratches took a bit more than T-cut to remove..
-
Thanks. Seem to remember this.... I'll have a look through their back issues.
The reports are online too.
-
I think the B7 started on a 55 plate? I could be wrong though, but the B5 finished a year or 2 before that. There was quite a big gap in the middle before the new shape RS came out.
Darren
-
there was the b6 inbetween which ran from 2001-2004 but no rs model though
-

^^ This is correct.

There was no B6 RS4, only an S4 and the EVO long-termer you're thinking of was a Misano Red '55 plate.
Can you tell I've been looking at RS4's too?
[understatement]The costs involved in running one are rather frightening... Tyres @ 250 quid a go, for example...[/understatement]
-
EVO end of term report on the RS4: (plus other report links at the bottom of the page)

I'm in trouble now......
-
Blimey didn't realise the EVO RS4 long termer was run so long ago, I thought it was 2/3 years back...
Still just reading the link to the site, it still reads as a nice motor, high revving V8 with 400+ gee gees...very sweeeeet.
Enjoy the car search.
-
^^ 'Just looking' my arse...
I'm in trouble now......
...there are some decent RS4's coming in around the £20k mark now...
-
If you don't mind big miles you can get them for £17k, though I'm looking around the £20k - £22k mark. I'm busy for next couple of weeks with work & hols, then I will properly start the process of sourcing one. Just doing my research and keep the bad urges in check!!
