Title: BBS VZ's
Post by: snapey on August 06, 2011, 09:14:29 am
Hi guys.

Planning on getting a set of VZ's, does anyone know if aftermarket wheel bolts are required? I.e. longer etc? or are the OE bolts sufficient?

Luke.

Best to take the wheel off, and put a bolt through each new and old wheel and then you will be able to see if there is much difference in length through the  wheel,  (does that sentence make any sense?)

Had a set of these, when it came to sell the Ed on, had to leave them on.

Great wheels, Best wheel on a MkV IMO bar none.  Gives the car the correct stance, due to the slightly enhanced offset (44 mm on VZ IIRC).

Didn't know that PW Motorsport posted on here.

I rang them a couple of months back when I fancied some anthracite BBS wheels that they were advertising on ebay.

After a vague two minute phone call and noticing the phone info didn't really tally with their ebay items, I was told 'they're busy' can you ring back, as the phone got put down on me, I obviously never called back.

He might have been having a bad day, but it definitely worked well as "sales prevention".
Not slagging anyone off, just saying what happened. It was enough for me to go elsewhere.

Perhaps the pictures are for illustration only?  I pressume the Pescara's are made by BBS, do they carry a model number?

Also, what is the difference between the BBS CH and BBS VZ - visually they are very similar, but price wise there seems to be a huge difference......

EDIT: Found these on the bay - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BBS-CH-ALLOY-WHEELS-18INCH-Genuine-set-VW-SEAT-AUDI-/280719826182?pt=UK_CarParts_Acc_Wheels_tyres_Trims_Car_Rims_ET&hash=item415c349d06 - correct me if I'm wrong, but they look like VZ's, not CH's as advertised?
Title: Re: BBS VZ's
Post by: the bruce on August 13, 2011, 12:39:29 pm
There are some similar designs made by BBS:

- original BBS CH (MOTORSPORT): different sizes and bolt patterns (VAG 8x18 ET50)
- new BBS CH-R: dito
- cheaper BBS CO: without 'Motorsport'

VAG 5x112 only:

- BBS VZ033 (Votex/driver gear):   8x18 ET44
- VW Pescara/Rockingham (ED30):  7.5x18 ET51
- Audi A3 S-Line '14-spoke-design':  7.5x18 ET54
- Audi A4/A6 S-Line '14-spoke-design':  8x18 ET43

So the Ebay items seem to be the Audi A4 (8E)/ A6 (4F) ones or the offset is ET44
and they are VZ033. In no way they are original BBS CH.

I'd like to say that it was because I'd have the titanium ones fitted now if it was the case. To cut a long story short, BBS aren't able to produce the wheels in that colour without any defects i.e. fish eyes etc which is a really shame.

eh, so if you get the titanium ones the finish wont be perfect? Is a "fish eye" just like a bubble on the paint?

That's the response I've had from both wheelbasealloys and BBS. All the wheels are being returned now as the second set of silver ones feature some significant damage. I don't want to put images up of the defects until the case has been resolved but once it is I'll share my findings.

Are the grey ones factory painted by BBS?

I've never seen grey VZs outside of this thread and I thought
BBS (or the VW dealers cos the're VW original equipment) didn't
sell the VZ033 for some time.

No Adam they look very similar but the Pescaras are 7.5J ET51
the BBS VZ'S are 8J with an offset of ET45 or could be 42???

I'm not sure about the centre caps.
