Title: Chips
Post by: Baldy on August 06, 2011, 07:21:09 pm
no not the ones that go with Fish,

I have an 2005 Gti, which has 42000 on the clock and is completely standard, I am thinking about upgrading the power.

I have been told that the REVO stage 1 is the best available (by the local supplier) and I have been quoted £440 to have it done,

can anyone tell me if this is the best way to start, and is the price about right?

Sounds good, take a look at R-tech first-   javascript:void(0);   http://www.r-techpower.co.uk/r-tech-producs.php      they seem to be getter some superb reviews, especially on our sister forum site.
At the moment if you buy Golf+ magazine they are doing a £50 off voucher off their Spec 1 remaps(valid until Nov 11).So for £240 you will get a full pre map inspection, rolling road before and after and they quote a good smooth linear power increase (approx 240bhp)
I have spoken to countless others who have had there Gti remapped by them and everyone raves about the good work of Nick and his team.I am getting mine done by them in a few weeks time.Watch this space.

Definitely.your best bang for buck and Revo are regarded as being one of the best. Price seems good.

Essoman's post is corrupt because of the url. There are alternatives to Revo if you wish and many have had good experiences with blufin and R-tech.

I have the Bluefin stage 1 map on my Gti snd love it. Power curve is similar to stock and I love the smooth, low down and mid range torque.

I had Revo stage 1 done a few months back. Transforms the car. Also I noticed last night my weekley trip from Bournemouth to Essex I got 35.8 MPG over 170 miles covered and I dont hang about. Thats 70-90 MPH on motorways.

No need mate as 90 on a GTI speed is 85 and at that speed big brother is not bothered  :signLOL:

With the Bluefin you just order it and install it yourself. Takes about 10 minutes in total and you can take the map back off if need be at a later date. Plus you get 10% discount as a forum member I believe.

Hi Baldy been running a evolution chip for about 6 months now and found it to be awesome over standard, reason i used this chip was that like you i am not close to a revo dealer, cost £300 my local tuner did it on a live mapping session as apossed to rollers, the map is very progressive through out the rev range, gains of 40bhp  and seen returns of 40 mpg on route to work about 40 miles round trip, hope this helps Dougie

I would take that with a pinch of salt, the ME9 cannot be 'live mapped' it can be live datalogged and then email the map back to Stu at evolution chips along with the logs and waiting for an email back and then writing the map back to the ecu, but until there is a high speed emulator you wont be able to live map this ECU.
