Title: Car almost sold, changed my mind at last minute
Post by: Nickyboy on August 07, 2011, 01:52:25 am
A strange position to be in. I advertised it for sale on a few websites for £11250, bought another car in the meantime, and yesterday I had a girl offer me £10900 for it after a viewing, and I accepted.

We arranged for her to pick it up the today. She came round to pay and take away, but I snapped a part of the centre console air vents whilst changing the head units over (she doesn't have an iPod and the head unit fitted is an Alpine iPod only unit so I was reinstalling the original head unit with CD player) and I need to order the part from VW so we arranged for payment etc next week.

So tonight I took it for another spin and I absolutely love this car, all the reasons for me buying it came back. The thought of selling it after looking after it all this time (full VW service history is not cheap!) and how much I enjoy driving it, it is just too disheartening to get rid. So I am going to tell her tomorrow that I cannot sell it.

Has anyone else been in this position? It's like I didn't know how much I liked this car until I almost got rid of it.

Ha and I just thought, you hear of "timewasters" when selling a car, never the seller though!

I dont blame you matey, I have struggled with the replacement question for a long time and for that reason I am not sure I would want to give her up either.

I have no idea what will be good enough and practical enough....this week for example I bought a new Keter XL store it out for some garden crap and brought it back in my GTI, I also went onto get a new Patio dining set, which I also transported in the back of my car. All this and then the ability to drop her into S mode and blast away some twisties.

My car will be six years old next month and I swear that she runs better now than ever, sweet as a nut, tight as a drum and still as practical as a swiss army knife.  Difficult to find something that makes the grade, I am still no nearer to working out what to get next.  :ashamed:

Oh no, I hoped no-one would ask. A Toyota Rav4 T180

Don't blame you at all.  At the start of the year I was seriously considering changing to an A3 S-line TDI but though it ticked most of the 'head' boxes it didn't really do anything for the heart.  The replacement was put on hold while I sold my flat and bought a house.

Then I was away offshore for 6 weeks and when I came back I 'rediscovered' the GTI.  It was like driving it for the first time again and it is a fantastic car.  It just does everything so well.  Convinced me that I don't think I could live with a car that only makes sense to the head.

I am eying up some S3 sportbacks now though  :ashamed:

The lady buying yours will be gutted but you've got to think about yourselfn :happy2:

Can you afford the running costs of both cars? Will you actually drive the car frequently/often enough to justify it?

If not, get over it and sell it. You probably will at some point, just a question of when.

My Dad is buying the Rav off me  :signLOL:

Well, part exing his Nissan Qashqai + monies.

Told the girl today I am keeping it. She gave me a £50 deposit which I said I will come to your house and give back + a tenner petrol money. Let's hope she doesn't try the binding contract angle.

If so, the car recently developed this fault

There's very few cars that I'd hand my GTI keys over for Nick. If I was you, I'd have ducked out too  :happy2:

Even without the bias and raw love for them  , I think they're still such an accomplished all-rounder and very hard to replace which I'm finding too.

Totally off subject but what tints do you have? I'm after that look and cars booked in next sat!

I don't know the percentage but National Windscreens did the job, from the scale they had pictured I chose the second last darkest option,  one up from limo black.

The main difference is the two extra doors!  It looks like a mini avant ...

I think the 3 door looks a bit better but i cant live without the practicality of a 5 door.

I wanted limo black at first but it makes reversing at night a pain in the butt!

I wanted limo black at first but it makes reversing at night a pain in the butt!

I went for 35% on the rear two windows and 20% on the rear windscreen but it's too dark for me it looks like limo black and to chavvy on a reflex silver. Back in tomorrow to swap for 35% just hope my heater elements survive  :scared:
