Hi all,
As you will all have read, the riots are still causing mayhem in many major cities in the UK and it is tearing apart many people's beliefs in our current government and our fellow person...
Many of you that have an opinion on this will be, like myself, pointing the finger directly at the rioters for being such lowlife scum instead of being distracted by all the talk that will try to protect the rioters and blame the current or previous government entirely. Yeh David and Nick aren't great - you can say that loads of things have helped contribute to this happening - but you CANNOT get away from the fact that if these rioters weren't such thieving arsehole pricks then it wouldn't be happening at all...
Some of you that are on Facebook may have seen a link to an e-petition on a Direct.gov website. the way it works is that if an e-petition reaches 100,000 signatures in the alloted timescale, it stands a very good chance of being debated in the house of commons. The petitions states:
Convicted London rioters should loose all benefits.
Responsible department: Department for Work and Pensions
Any persons convicted of criminal acts during the current London riots should have all financial benefits removed. No tax payer should have to contribute to those who have destroyed property, stolen from their community and shown a disregard for the country that provides for them.
I think that this is a very fair and just policy that could very easily make it's way into law. We can't argue the pros and cons in a debate ourselves but we can help to make sure it gets talked about at least!
I'm not particularly politcial but I do feel very strongly about this - I am appauled at the number of people trying to puposely cause mayhem and ruin our (once great) country "for a laugh", as well as stealing from genuine, honest and hardworking people. It's worse to see that people only a couple of years younger than me (I'm 21) out on the streets at night time with f*ck all else to do that be dickhead and smash somebody elses shopfront up...
See below for a link to the petition - please do fill in all the information and respond the the confirmation email or else it won't count!

Cheers,
Pat

Signed, bloody wasters

There's a difference between loose and lose. Once they correct it, I will sign.

Signed

^^ *lose*, not *loose*.
I've obviously been hanging around 'Pistonheads' too long. :ashamed:
-
Looks like it got a lot of support.
Sorry if you're experiencing problems accessing e-petitons. There is currently a much higher level of demand than we expected.
-
Well, it's got 997k+ signatures so I guess it must go for debate.
One wonders if there will be quibble from the back benchers about their benefits being "loosened" or "lost". Rioting and looting are bad, but illiteracy isn't very good either.

^^
Are you looking at the same petition as me Neo?
It says Number of signatures: 99,541

.
The only up side of this whole catastrophe is that it has spurred many communities into action to now take a pride in itself. It could even contribute towards reducing racial tensions/differences and that's a very good thing in my opinion.
It's a good job that these riots weren't politically inspired, though I don't doubt that some will claim it's influenced by party politics and policies.

I must be going crazy, I just clicked on the link and now it's saying 99,541.
But I'm almost certain it was 997,xxx when I made my post.
Just checked, I had the tab open and I did see 997k. Here's a screendump...

Not seeing that screenshot...

It's down now, says it may be back tomorrow.

Most of the looters arent old enough to receive benefits??? ie school kids with nothing to do
-
I will definately sign this when itz up. They have cancelled my bloody annual leave because those good for nothing thieving little tw★ts. They should all be taken out back
and shot but not before the reintroduction of some stocks in the town square for the scotes to be put in. People could go up and slap them!
-
Woohoo, check it out! This wouldn't have happened under the Labour government....

Nice one. :jumping: :pomppomp: :congrats: :congrats:

Hollow victory, evicted from council property so will move to privately rented property and cost the tax payer more.
As for that petition, utterly spastic, what is going to happen when they can't feed their children or can't pay rent? More crime of course.
The original intention of benefits was to have a safety net above which all can rise but beneath which none can fall and that moral obligation still stands, we do need to fix it to ensure that there is an incentive to work but the proposal in the above is an ill thought out, knee jerk reaction and will fix nothing.

....I very much agree with Nathan's post too.
But it's not politics or politicians who are to blame, it's parents and education, but mostly parents. Some parents need a good slap around the head! So many are ignorant and have no consideration or respect for others. Unfortunately it's the same feckers who breed too many children and hence the vile rot spreads.
