Title: Led sidelights without xenons?
Post by: m4t_lee on August 12, 2011, 08:06:34 am
Does anyone run them together and do they look ok or do they only look right with xenons?

Could try whiter headlight bulbs too?

I fitted some LED side lights a few weeks ago (one was a major pain in the ar*e to get out) and upgraded my headlight bulbs to Osram Nighbreaker Plus’s at the same time.

The Osrams are whiter then the OEM bulbs but the LED’s are even whiter (with a hint of blue). They don’t match in colour (if that’s what you are looking for) but I think it gives the front end a good look :happy2:

Didn't like the LED look on my halogens.

I felt like I needed to be doing wheel spins & handbrake turns in a McDonald's car park on a Sunday night  :innocent:

That is for fords and vauxhalls. The GTI at least deserves to be in a Burger King car park

Mtec do whiter sidelight bulbs. You can match them up with whiter headlights too. I find Ultra (5000k) are good bit currently I'm using some I got from the lamin x website. Think they're (5500k). Both halogen bulbs not hid kits

I run sidelights and they look fine with the headlamps off... not as good as the xenons due to the position... I need some whiter bulbs...

The OEM sidelight bulbs were like pissy yellow candles

I have LED side lights fitted in the vRS and 5000k HIDs, together I think they look excellent.  I have also now fitted LED sidelights in the GT and replaced the halogen bulbs with Ring Xenon Max which are much whiter than standard, but no comparsion to the LED's, the other problem with the Golf headlight is there is know diffuser covering the sidelight so you can see the 8 SMD in all its aftermarket glory - not a look I am keen on!

LED's fitted in the vRS -

And the Golf -

Do those ones last Mike? ^

I bought some £8 ones from eBay which I grabbed from a link on here somewhere and they last 2 weeks before flickering and eventually blowing  :sad1:

^^ Thanks both  :happy2:

I can't tell you the number of side lights I tried in my Clio and the GTI. It must be in excess of 25 different pairs including the odd interior or number plate bulbs. I've found with the LED or SMD bulbs that you've gotta be careful what you buy and do a bit of research.

The number of those 25 odd sets that have failed within a fortnight is worrying and it's always the last set you but that last the course

I think £15 is a lot for a pair of little LED bulbs unless you know they'll last thousands of hours.

I got these (seem like the same as in TFSI-MIKE's link)

http://www.hids-direct.co.uk/xtec-c5w-led-error-free-number-plate-bulbs-audi-bmw-mercedes-p-423.html

They look the same as the pics above and i've had them in there for 4-5 months and are fine :happy2:
