Title: Exhaust diameter......
Post by: vRS_Pagey on August 17, 2011, 10:11:14 am
Ok long story but I will precis, fitted a GTi lower valance to the wife's GT TDi, my mechanic modded the existing exhaust and added a pair of trims.

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fpagey1255%2FGolf_GT%2FDSC04711.jpg&hash=2940ac880955f66a50428fa24e5606389ffbcd5c)

Although cosmetically this looks good, the actual mod is pretty nasty behind the bumper, so I have been on the hunt for a suitable GTi, TDi 170 or TSi back box, when I stumbled on this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MK5-VW-GOLF-1-9-TDI-2004-CAT-BACK-EXHAUST-SYSTEM-/220549815190?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3359cb1b96

Obviously its not a top make, but there is one with very low bidding so would do the job, my concern is the measurements stated in the advert.  It says the pipe work is 2.75" reducing down to 2.5" to match the OE system, I have just measured the diameter of my pipework and it is 2.25" and mine is a 2.0 TDi!!  :stupid:

They also have one for the GTi which is 2.75" straight through.  Either way I can't see it being a problem as I can install a reducer pipe, but I wondered what forumites thoughts are on the actual exhaust system and the accuracy of the measurements?

Thanks in advance, Lee.   :popcornsoda:

just a thought if its 2.5 and u need 2.25 wont the exhaust have small cuts around the end of the pipe, so when you clamp the pipe will decrease insize to hold tight on to the original pipe?

Tbh the size isn't a problem as I can get a reducer, my issue is the seller is offering an exhaust for the 1.9 TDi but states that it reduces down to 2.5" to fit the existing pipe, but when I measured mine (2.0 TDi) it is only 2.25"????
