I have got some GTi side skirts, and noticed a few people have "stuck" them on, rather than using the fitting kit. I want to attach them this way, but what do you use to stick on??
-
I imagin it would be using the Black super sticky adhesive (Bostick springs to mind)
The stuff supplied with De wiper bungs and for glass fitting
-
You could use Sikaflex or Tiger seal, make sure you have it positioned correctly first as it sticks like $hit to a blanket.
You can buy it from most bodyshop suppliers, have a look in your local phone book or on the net, it'll cost about £8 - £10 a tube and would be more than enought to fix both sill trims.
Might also be worthwhile buying a roll of 2" masking tape to hold it in place while it dry's
-
The skirts do have a peel off adhesive strip along the top, when I get mine I will fix them using this and the 4 screws in the bottom and sides.
-
Tigerseal is the one I used. Make sure you test the placement of the skirts and mark with masking tape or youll get bitten.
Its horrible stuff to remove if not impossible :happy2:
ps. Dont forget to get the sills nice and clean before you start
-
Could you not put the skirts on and then pull the adhesive sticky covers off as you go along to prevent you having to hope that you get it in place first time?

I would have thought yes, if you use the adaptor kit, locate the skirts then screw into the adaptors which will give the correct position but will leave enough play to pull the skirts away from the body work. Then remove the tape, stick and volia... :happy2:

? I thought skirts came with a fitting kit? brackets/screws etc?
Do you HAVE to use an adhesive as well?

Most people tend to ignore the fitting kit as it means drilling into the bodywork, and the skirts hold on just fine with only using the screws and adhesive,
-
Oh right, cool.
And most people are using tigerseal/adhesive, rather than a doubled sided tape?
-
I just used the double sided strip that is already on the skirts from VAG
