I've been informed that on the Golf there is an ID plate, with this number/info, if passed to VW it will confirm exactly what the car comes with from the factory...
True?
If so, where is this plate located?

Under the boot carpet i think mate :happy2:
Lists the spec code etc
-
Whats the code/number like? like a VIN? or is it made of several numbers?

Open the boot, lift the boot floor to get access to the spare wheel area. The label is on the rear left of the car to the left of the wheel well. There should also be another in the front of your owner's book/service schedule :happy2:
It's a white label about the size of a beer mat or slightly smaller. There is a website that 'decodes' them when you enter the codes. The label is obvious. You can't miss it.

There was a thread with the website on and explanation of how to work out what spec the car has.

Silly question - searching for it, but don't really know what you call it. Vehicle ID/tag?

Just found this;
"To find your factory spec you can enter the the codes from the sticker in your service book ( there should be a sticker in boot too) in a code checker and it will tell you the factory spec , I can dig it out if you like
