talk to me how do they work where do they go can they be fitted to mk5 gtis

To regulate the boost pressure on turbo charged cars a wastegate is fitted to allow exhaust gases to bypass the turbine and pass straight down the exhaust down pipe. This can cause turbulent airflow around the turbine so to overcome this problem gases can be re-routed down a separate pipe about thirty centimetres long and vented straight to atmosphere. The reason for the term screamer pipe is the phenomenally loud jet engine noise they produce which is popular and highly desirable for car modifiers. Due to the noise and the fact they miss out the catalytic converter these are not technically for street use.

you need an externally gated turbo to run a screamer pipe.

so no you can't on your stock K03 / K04 or even GT28's as they all come with internally gated exhaust housings.

what you need is something like GT30 or bigger.

Screamer pipes are for high boost Turbo applications where an External Wastegate (Tial/Turbosmart make them) are used to control the boost pressure made by the Turbo. The exhaust gases goes into the wastegate...so it needs to exit as well. Some people will run a screamer pipe which is basically a pipe from the wastegate straight out into open air like an exhaust.

some will run the pipe back into the exhaust pipe further down to avoid the "screamer" side of it.

Just go GT3076 then you can have a screamer pipe  :evilgrin:
