Hi All ,
Ive have my Golf GTI dsg (110,000 miles ) 2 monthes , alls great . had a service done last week .
they flagged up that even tho the service book is stamped from new ( by the 2 vw dealers that serviced it over its life ) , there is no record of the timing belt being replaced !??? .
Is this possible ?
Can you tell by looking at it ? ( im told not by the dealer )
The car is well looked after and it shows and drives as new .
But this is annoying me , want to be sure .
Any advice welcome ....
Thanks in advance .

If its had a dealer histrory phone them up and they should beable to give you a full record of all services / belt changes carried out on the car, if there is no record from the dealers and service book id be getting it done ASAP

+1...they should be able to cross reference with an invoice or job order that shows exactly what was done. or, you can contact previous owners which is what i have done in the past. as the first reply says, if you cant find out and are in any doubt at all...change it as it aint worth taking the risk.

I think if previous owner stuck with the Maintenance schedule, then it was done. Should be recorded at a dealer. Here it's scheduled to be changed at 80000 miles. Anyhow, give your VIN# to a dealer service dept. so they can check for you.

The 2 vw dealers who have always serviced the car should have a record if the timing belt has been done, however if its not in the service history book chances are its not been,
Vw recommend a timing belt change every 4 years or 40,000 miles,
seriously if it hasnt been done get it done asap, if these things snap, u bugger up the whole engine, and the car is never the same again
