I've got an 07 plate GTi with the centre armrest fitted and 6 disc changer in it. I only have the standard RCD 500 fitted but would like to use my iPod. I'm not keen on spending a fortune but would like to play my iPod through the stereo as I've sold most of my CD's and only have digital music now. Would the best solution be to buy an armrest iPod dock and replace the changer? Is this as easy as one out and the other straight in? Thanks for any help.

You have 3 options :
1 . iPod dock in your armrest
2. iPod adaptor (glovebox) see for sale ad I'm selling one
3. If you change your head unit to a newer version and mdi kit

The glovebox adapter that you're selling doesn't seem to fit my needs, Ive got an iPhone 4 which would be plugged in on most journeys. Thanks anyway. Think I'll go down the armrest dock route.

the glovebox kit does fit the iphone 4 , the dock you will struggle with as you can not turn the warning not official product screen off :scared:

If you want to use an iPhone another option is a Parrot bluetooth system. This will give you two options for playing music. 1. stream audio from your iPhone via bluetooth, or 2. play music via the iPod connection. The advantage of doing it via the iPod connection is that you can access your entire music library via the little control unit with the library and album artwork etc being displayed on the screen. Also your phone is always on recharge. If you do it via bluetooth you have to make your album selections on the phone and then press play. However via bluetooth you can keep the phone in your pocket. When you get an incoming call it will stop playing the music and give you the option of answering the call or not. It's very easy to use. I have the MKi9200 which is around the £250 mark with installation. Your other option is to upgrade your head unit.

I'm looking at the Dension Gateway FIVE, it potentialy uses the MFD and MFSW for the phone and IPod, displaying info for both in the MFD. Mixed reviews though.
