Off another forum...
Lad went over with those German show plates on his car, the TUV/Police took exception to it and impounded it.
500 Euro fine
140 Euro release fee, only when he'd put on genuine UK BS marked plates... considering he didn't have any with him and you can't buy them in Germany, he was stranded and had to get some brought over.
Seems they've had some advice on what a UK car needs to be legal, and they're enforcing it.

that's a bit tough aint it :scared:. good warning though.

Good warning that as thats a lot of money.. where they the german font ones I take it and not the "road legal" pressed plates with uk font?? They might not have got advice on it, just went on DVLA site and saw what the plates must conform to as they saw they wasn't using the right font..
I haven't got german plates on mine but they have no BS numbers and have the St George Cross with ENG underneath (I don't think the law allowing national flags to be displayed was ever passed, but it was said years ago it was going to be) but are in Standard sized 3D font and normal spacing. So I know I'll have a to display a GB sticker in europe but reading this, if they are checking for BS numbers I'll get some velcro and GB plates

Cheers Tony, I do actually keep a spare set of legal plates in the boot on top of the spare :happy2:
