Hey people!
My car is currently not fitted with auto lights function, was thinking to buy the switch to make it auto light.
Does Anyone know if this will work
-
You'll need the switch, sensor and maybe a different control module too.
-
you can add a new windscreen and a new interior mirror to the shopping list.
Not worth it unless you have to replace your windscreen
-
Well I need a new windscreen anyway but why do you say it's not worth it without a new screen?
Will it work with just changing the switch
-
I also need a new screen. Is it worth getting the one for auto lights / rain wipers for future upgrade?
-
If you want Auto lights, then you need the full set up with the sensor, which will give you auto wipers too
If you want Coming / Leaving Home then all you need is the switch and some coding. But the car will not know if it is Daytime so the feature will work all of the time

That is the smart move, if you want that feature as it would be the most expensive part. The other parts can be found on ebay and breakers cheap enough

Only problem I forsee is the glass company not doing it via insurance with it not being a like for like part??

If you do it with autoglass normally they will ask if the screen is fitted with sensors
-
Isn't it the mirror that has the ligh sensor and the screen with the rain sensor? (on the Leon anyhow)
-
You need the sensor on the windscreen and the mirror as they a pair
Try this link to see whats envolved http://tos.pp.fi/koukku/VWJettaRainLightSensorInstall.pdf (http://tos.pp.fi/koukku/VWJettaRainLightSensorInstall.pdf)

It's the sensor on the windscreen that does both Auto Wipers and Auto Lights Mike.
I had to have a new windscreen under warrenty, they didn't have the "special" glue on the day for the sensor to be fitted. After driving the car away and onto our 500mile round trip family holiday, I found the lights and wipers wouldn't work automatically.

Depending on which sensor you manage to pickup, I know that VW do a repair kit for the sensors which is a new front plate with the special 'gel' in place ready to be mated to a windscreen.
I had my 'normal' windscreen replaced with the one with the rain sensor mounting by turbo windscreens, the chap asked me on the phone if it had the sensor or not, i said no, but i would be fitting the sensor myself, he said you'll have to have the right rear view mirror ready to go on otherwise we can't do it....
so bought the mirror cheap off ebay and had it ready, a few days later picked up the sensor off ebay for 30quid and i now have auto lights/wipers :)
the wiring is a bit of a 'pain', i managed to get the mirror and sensor loom out of a GTI that was the local salvage yard so then it was just a case of extending the wires down to the CECM and fuse box

on a side note about the auto lights...
I know the dipped+side lights are activated when it gets dark
BUT
dependant upon lighting conditions will the sidelights be turned on by themselves WITHOUT the dipped beams?
