Title: 4 Wheel Alignment in Kent/Portsmouth
Post by: Resonance on August 23, 2011, 06:04:13 pm
Good evening!

I am hoping I can get some good advice on 4 Wheel Alignment.

I have booked my car into JKM to get a WALK kit fitted and Front R32 Brakes, after this is done I want to have a 4 wheel alignment done as I feel my camber is out anyway and the work being carried out on my car will knock it our further.

Can anyone recommend me any good places which do 4 wheel allignment in the Kent area (Im from Tunbridge Wells) or in the Porthsmouth area which I can go to after JKM have finished their work.

Thanks

Richard

I used IA Motorsport in Gillingham.  Was cheap and helpful.  More experience of Jap cars but had no bother setting up my Leon.  Think they used to be in tonbridge.

Will dig out the number, pretty sure they have a website.

The evening I had it done some wench reversed into my front wing :@  :fighting:

I use Denmead Tyres in, err, Denmead just up the road from JKM. They have a full Hunter alignment system and are excellent. In fact, I believe JKM run a car up there when asked to do the alignment themselves

Elite in Essex are good, used them a few times and would recommend them without hesitation. Might be a little far for you though......

I called JKM the other day and they recommended Denmead Tyres and said that they put all their cars to them for alignment, I have booked myself in with them and will report back on there service  :happy2:

Thanks

It would be good to hear back as I'm in the same situation as you... Looking to get my WALK kit fitted at JKM then will need the alignment doing after.
How much is the fitting for the WALK and how much is the alignment if you don't mind me asking? Are you going to change the front wishbone bushes at the same time as the WALK?

Good evening Mandy,

Well I was quoted a price of £330 over the phone, but this includes buying the WALK kit and also fitting the R32 front brakes...

The WALK kit is £170

So that's £160 worth of Labour in fitting the R32 Brakes and WALK kit.

As for the Alignment Ive been quoted £70 as a maximum (Depending how bad your wheel alignment is) and only £30 if its just the Front tyres which need adjusting.

Finally haven't thought about uprating the front Wishbone bushes at the same time as getting the WALK kit fitted, is it a worth while thing to do? If so I will get a quote from JKM tomorrow on how much extra that would be.

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard, thanks for the info.  :happy2:

When I have my WALK fitted I'll prob do the bushes too just to avoid any chance of premature wear on the oem ones, this is just my choice though and probably not absolutely necessary. They sell them at JKM, have a look, it's listed just under the WALK kit:

I've got no idea how long these take to fit though...

Good afternoon Mandy!

I have called JKM this afternoon and they have given me a quote on getting the Bushes uprated.

They said as the WALK kit and R32 Brakes are being fitted at the same time it would be quite easy to fit the new Bushes and have given me a quote of £85 in total.

That’s £52 (inc VAT) for the Bushes from JKM Website and an Extra £33 for the Labour.

All in all I thought that was a good price and have asked them to fit the Bushes as well!

Had my WALK and bushes fitted today.  :driver:

Didn't realise that JKM done the tracking too after fitting, so it's saved me a trip to Denmead.  :pomppomp:

Did they just do the front wheels or a full laser alignment for all 4 wheels? I was told by there receptionist that they only did front tracking!?!

Also what was their service like and how does the car handle now

I've used JKM a few times now and always excellent service from them so no need to worry there.  :happy2:

Yes, Kate said it's the front wheels that were tracked so shouldn't need to go for anymore alignments.

When I first got the car back it felt like the steering had gone a bit heavy, don't know if it's because I've got used to it or was imagining it but seems to have gone away now. I haven't had a chance to have a proper drive yet but the car certainly seems happier going round corners and in/out of roundabouts, seems to be more 'stable'.

It usually takes a few miles (10 miles-ish) for the suspension to settle in after tracking, Mandy  :happy2:

The WALK tends to make the steering a bit heavier.  :happy2:

....My WALK was fitted at the same time VWR did my KW suspension, so I didn't notice.
