Post by: Frenzy on August 26, 2011, 09:33:17 am
Anyone got any of these or know if they do a decent job for more than just 5 minutes before crumbling to pieces?

Any good quality metal pressure gauge like that will last for ages. My folks bought me one when I passed my test, and it's still great 22 years later.

My halfrauds foot pump lasted about 10years so I reckon you'll be ok there, too. I wouldn't count on the pump gauge; but I doubt you will either if you're looking at a pencil gauge :happy2:

cheers Loucyffer, that's the idea - accurate reading from pencil gauge rather than the dial-y thing they stick on foot pumps

Have you tried a footpump on a car tyre recently , properly hard work  , i would get a decent power one unless you need a foot pump for a specific reason.

I never had a real issue with a foot pump. I often use my cycle track pump to top off as required, and that's not hugely difficult either.

I wouldn't like to inflate a car tyre from say, 10psi, but for topping off they are fine in my experience.

I bought that halfrauds yellow one a few years ago. It worked fine until one day, I managed to apply the force slightly laterally and managed to bend the bloody thing! I did enjoy using it whilst it lasted - used to slightly overinflate and then use the tyre pressure guage to drop it back down to the correct pressure.

I find the ones powered by the 12v plug to be very rattly and loud.

Eurocar parts are doing 30% off all car maintenance items (use code: saveme30).. maybe worth a look there?

Good call, Rich.

And, Frenzy, don't forget to reset your tyre pressure monitor each time you inflate one or more of your tyres. Press the tyre button in front of the gear lever & hold it down until you hear the 'bong'.
