Title: Why do Gti engines sound like diesels on tick over????

Sounds like a absolute beast when you put your foot down, but why when the engine has warmed up does it sound like a diesel??? Any ideas guys??

Compression ratio + direct injection.

It's due to the direct injection system on the TFSi motor  :happy2:

Doesn't sound exactly like a diesel but agree it doesn't sound like the average petrol engine either.

HPFP 'ticking' made me paranoid when I first bought the car  :sick:

First ones tho on the AXX engine code were known to have the ''cam chain & tensioner'' fault which made them really sound like a diesel.My last 05 did & they had to be replaced.

Mine's on an 06, do you think if I had them replaced then it will make a difference?
