Title: retrofit PTC heater from TDI models
Post by: the bruce on August 29, 2011, 03:59:09 pm
Found this:

1K0963235E Heizelement 305,83€
1K1998250 Leitungssatz für PTC 51,11€
1K1819349E Abdeckung 8,45€
1K0972704C Flachkontaktgehäuse 0,32€
000979009E Einzelleitung (can-bus) 2,32€
N10118105 Bundmutter M5 0,64€
1K0919625 Bundschraube 0,13€
N10525506 Sicherung 100A 2,14€

GTIs should have the same 140 A alternator as the TDI models.
So not an issue at all. Required labour is two to three hours.

If you like it warm in the winter time.

1K1998250 Leitungssatz für PTC 51,11€

Is this for 1 cable or a set, ie 2 cables.

As 1Q0 971 478 A/B is the wiring harness for this heater, I guess its HIGH Amp cable. at twice the price of the above.

I was looking into doing this on my Tdi, but then read reports that there was also a fire issue, due to a bad earth, which caused over heating.

I pulled all the drivers side trims off looking on where this is to be fitted, couldn't find the slot in the HVAC. Couldn't make sense of the diagram.  :sad1:

Everything in the 1st link above needed? A pricey mod. Will get another remap and wear an extra T -shirt

Loving all the retro fits and oem upgrades on this site though, sensible purposeful modifying  :happy2:

AFAIK, this option was only usually available / fitted in cold climate countries i.e. Sweden, Norway, Finland, etc.

Every TDi that I have scanned with my Vag-com in the UK has had one
7D - Auxilary PTC-Heater

The rarer one is Address 18 - Auxilary Heating (Webasto Heater)

Mine don't :booty: its even unchecked in VCDS, followed that link where the guy retro fitted the heater, I don't have the fuse either. Hence the reason I went looking for it.

Any other checks would be welcome.

The German TDI as well. Mk.V from the beginning (2003).
Mk.IV I don't know exactly, but I guess around 2000 they had this (the older 'water heat' version).

so hoooold upp...

assuming my car hasn't got this fitted which I dont think it has,

all thats required for this is the heater element, a positive power feed, earth and a pair of can bus splices and I can have warm air in my golf within 30seconds in the winter?....

Yes.
First have a look if you have a 140 A alternator or at least a 120 A type.
All TDI and all GTI I've looked at had the 140 A.
