The boot badge on my GT is curved, I can't imagine it would be different on the GTi.......

I'm pretty sure only the very early GTIs had the curved badges. Mine is a 2006 and it has the bevelled badge.

Pre 2006 the rear badge was curved and smooth, it suffered from White worm. Because of that they changed the design to the 'embossed' version, but it still has a curve to it.

Are you a boot badge horder?   :signLOL:

I see what you mean by 'embossed' now, the old style is completely flat, with no relief.

 :signLOL:

No... I've just had cars with both so i know about the issues with them. The older one also has a more satisfyingly 'damped' action than the new version.

This guy needs shooting really, 'cos these don't fit any golf that I know of, at least not on his list, and he must know it. He puts a disclaimer there, but I don't expect many people take much notice as it lists cars from 2003 0n to 2008. His badges have a flat back, at least the one I got from him does. AFAIK all GTI's and therefore probably all other VW's of this vintage have a domed back.
Spend your money elsewhere. :happy2:

er...Thanks!  i am guessing you didnt "modify" the badge that he sent you?  i got my front one from this place and its really good, but the back sounds like it has to be curved or domed in that case.  thanks for the warning, i shall not waste my hard earned then.  if anyone has a link for a black one that will actually fit my car, it would be much appreciated.

Post by: TonyZed on August 31, 2011, 08:08:27 pm
I got a front and back from him, and the front is perfect. :congrats:

I've never seen a back replacement for sale on ebay, but to be fair I didn't look for one as I didn't want to risk another dodgy one.
I bought a complete assembly from someone on here. He had wrapped the back plate in a cf effect and sprayed the VW part in matt black. It looks really smart. I'll try and put a pic up tomorrow.

Yours looks the same in that you can remove the lettering. The old ones like mine, that suffered white worm, are one piece plastic so you can't do much with them. I think there are instructions somewhere on here that tell you how to remove yours and wrap/spray as you like.

i am liking what you have done to yours...i am really neither creative or practical when it comes to stuff like that.  you dont happen to have a full back end shot of your car do you?  seeing as mine is also silver i want to make sure it "works"...as i think my look will be black and silver.  thanks guys.

Yes mate, i had to dismantle both and modify the black one. I used the backing of my original badge and just the black part of the vw badge from the one i purchased. If i ever sell the car i can just remove the black one and simlpy just clip the original back in

Yeah, probably a warranty job as a result of white worm.

Here's mine on a black car should anybody be interested. They're not very good as I took them on my iphone this morning with loads of reflections in the pics. Never mind, the thought was there! :ashamed:
