I've tried a 2760 update on my 510, but the first disc I tried told me there was an swl issue, although no harm was done & the old firmware remained. So tonight I burned another disc & tried again. Now I have a unit that cycles round to this screen continuously . It looks like I may need to burn a recovery disc, but any advice first? The unit has had a previous update done by the dealer, although it is a retrofit, so I was sure it wouldn't 'brick'.

You have taken the disc out haven't you?
Try forcing a reboot by pressing <,>, & I (or whatever your button is next to eject) for about 10 secs until the unit reboots.
If that doesn't work then press Setup, Eject & I (Or whatever the button next to it is) The unit will go through a power cycle and will initially ask for a SWL CD on a bar at the top/bottom of the screen but then it should sort itself out after a couple of mins and may require you to turn it off and back on again.

It's alive! ALIVE!
Shame about the update. That's a Morty and home made that's failed to do the business......

Hi,
Mine done exactly the same, after the 3 attempts I got the screen you show. Then I done the re boot thing like it says and 4th time it went straight through. It even carried on from where it stopped last time. Each of the 3 times I tried it stopped on a different percentage, i just took the disc out and then put the same one back in.
Not sure why it done this but it worked out in the end, keep trying

Do you have any other devices plugged in??
Primarily have you got anything else such as and MDI or Bluetooth tagged into the CAN?? Even so called Plug & Play devices.
-
Stu, I have the Skoda 729 kit, ipod lead (unused) and RVC into the 510, nothing else...... :fighting:
Plus I have Polar FIS+ into the CANbus
-
Is anything in the CAN cabling before the RNS510 - Normally plug and play extenders.
You may remember the problems that were reported here some time ago when an RNS510 failed an update and caused weeks of headache, well that car came to me recently and I discovered the problem being caused by a bad connection in a Kufaec Plug and Play MDI lead. Remove that and all is well.
-
Nothing else at all. The only non OEM kit is the GPS bug. Everything else is VW kit; RVC, iPod lead..
I've a suspicion that the DVD may need re doing. I'll be organising that ASAP.
Any input great fully received

Andy, The Polar unit sits between the cann gateway and the RNS on the infotainment can, if you un-plug the Polar unit and use something like a paperclip or short piece of wire as a jumper between pins 3 and 5 and then 4 and 6 the wiring will then be straight through between RNS and the gateway (saving you having to remove cable and plug the gateway directly in)

So do you think the FIS may have an effect on this firmware issue Rich? I'll certainly have a bash at your instructions
-
not sure to be honest, just based on what Carl has said that it could be related, especially if the update is failing on the can portion, I dont know enough about how the RNS update works.
-
Right, I'll bear that in mind. I'm still suspicious of the DVD to be honest. If another disc fails I'll go for the jumpers. That way it's a step by step process.
