Title: S3 Intercooler Group Buy Feeler
Post by: garethmk1 on March 29, 2009, 10:35:20 pm
Dear All,

Would anyone be interested in a group buy of S3 intercoolers ?  Not sure on discount available as yet but have been assured a good discount.  Would anyone be interested ? Currently JKM are asking £345 http://www.jkm.org.uk/performance/tfsiintercoolers.htm, they will be significantly less than this !

Anyone interested ?

I didn't think to be honest, a best mate works for a local VAG garage and is attempting to negotiate an amicable deal ... just merely putting feelers out at the moment.

Cheers TC  :happy2:

Last October Matt did the IC and hoses for around £280. Mind you, that was before the £ went downhill versus the euro.

I think they came in at £276 with pipes and ic

I was under the impression that the hoses were only required if you were K03 equipped !

U 100% need hoses as the fittings are not the same and the bends are not the same as the ones on the Gti

any point in this if you are only running a remap? is this more for when you got to stage 2 and beyond?

excuse my ignorance but what difference would this make? or is purely something that would accomdate other mods?

The GTi tends to heat soak fairly easily once remapped.

The extra cooling potential of this upgrade will be felt in especially in the summer by a lessen drop off in power vs the oem IC.

As its OEM does it make a difference to your insurance?

....If you have an insurance policy which literally replaces like-for-like (my Greenlight does), then you need to declare it. Otherwise, in the event of a claim your cheque won't take into account any price difference from stock GTI intercooler. You have to produce receipts too at a claim stage.

I do wonder sometimes whether insurance companies would even notice things like this....

....Possibly not your average insurer but if you have a specialist like Greenlight who ONLY insure modded cars, and who literally cover like-for-like, then they do employ assessors who do know all about mods (even how a car is fuelled).

It's more in your interests to declare mods than not to do so on such policies. They don't up your premium but during your annual cover period they'll make a charge to cover their work in updating the policy with additional items, which I think is fair enough when their premiums are so low compared to others.

Cheers Mat, am looking to try and arrange the pipework, discharge pipe and actual cooler - and just trying to get some approximate numbers at the moment.

am looking to remap my edition 30, it currently has a carbonio intake and forge DV also getting a cat-back milly added.

would it be worth me upgrading to an S3 intercooler with above mods or not?

....Those who already have a S3 i/c will doubtless tell you yes, and some of those who don't have one will tell you it's not critical.

Factors are if you plan to upgrade your Carbonio to a filter-on-a-stick type which delivers more gains, coupled with more than a Stage2 remap - Then yes. Otherwise I'd say it's not necessary but still a nice mod if you have the money spare.

Re the cat-back Milly - You definitely need their Hi-Flow cat if remapping.

I picked a S3 Intercooler up from Ebay for £150. I had to buy hoses which are scary money but even so had a nice result.
