Title: ED35 available to order
Post by: scooba on September 02, 2011, 07:26:52 pm
I received a email today saying ed35 available to order, What is considered essential ? what is the £435 road fund about on a manual version ? who is going to be ordering one ?

Looking at the pictures, I think the mk5 ED30 is a nicer, and far more understated car.

What's essential? I'd have said that red paint, plus the optional alloys. Shame the paint's not available.

Fully specced up with sensible options, add a map and it's a cheaper Golf R

Not even 1 bit of trim that celebrates the mk1, atleast the mk5 ed30 has golf ball gearknob and the funky interior design like the mk1, seats in the ed35 are.......gay  :signLOL: I'd hate the "35" on there!

Do we know which engine is in this - was it the same old TFSI style unit or the newer EA888 ?

I have been thinking off buying one off the ED35 s   , 3 door  with dsg and nav in either steel grey or carbon grey with multi function sw and xenons plus the 19" wheels list price is £32,100 , I have a Mercedes c250 sport auto on a 2009 59 plate similar spec to the 35,

I have been waiting for the ed35 and now its available i am a little dissapointed ,my other issue is my wife as tken to driving the merc most days ,she has a BMW E92 325D Coupe with huge spec ,Now she says just have what you like ,The BMW hasnt been used for 6 wks it is proper lovely .

I nearly forgot we have a ED30 in TRed 3dr dsg,nav,xenons,mfsw ,S3 brakes f+r  ,17k miles 2008 on a 08 mint,

what car to let go ????????????????????.Merc doesnt do it for me so M goes

I also have a company vehicle  a Land rover defender,That is one off the reasons three cars are available to my wife to use daily .

my last train off thought was sell two and buy a Porsche gt3  secondhand approx 12/18 mths old ..

That's a lot of money for a Golf.

The one I saw at Inters was nice, I'd be given one in a heartbeat. But I've just been reasonably conservative with the config and spent £33,000.

No, no and no.

My Ed35 spec "only" came out at £32334, but this was with a manual box.

Is the DSG much better to have over the manual given the extra cost both to spec and service over the years?

The dealer would probably only give me £12334 for my Ed30 in px leaving £20k to finance!

The issue is I owe a chunk of dough on my Aston, so do I borrow even more, or sell both my cars and get an Ed35 and have cash in pocket or status quo?!

I'd sell both and get an rs3 as I hate borrowing tbh. Each to their own. It I don't think you'd be disappointed running the rs3 as a daily ;)

It's difficult to claim something costing over £30k can represent good value for money, but I specced a 3-door up and it came to £34,515. That was in shadow blue with the Glendale alloys  and almost every extra you can have.
Title: Re: ED35 available to order

they need to sack the designers at VW i think.

the mk5 looked OK much improved over the mk4, with a full redesign. Then they went lazy; ed30  very minor changes.  the mk6 had a little tweaking, the ed35 even smaller changes.  thats alot of money for a car that looks just like all the other golfs.

If you spending 30k+ buy the Golf R, at least that looks different, plus you get AWD, and more power, a better intercooler and better brakes.

A guy at the shark performance open day made a good point i think.

Buy a 5dr golf if you need space, but if you dont why buy a 3 door Golf!!!!!  get a scirocco instead.

Stick with both your cars, the Ed35 is not worth an extra 18-20k. Or sell both cars and buy the new M5 F10.

Just comes down to visual preference I guess, plus a touch more practicality on the Golf's side. I don't much like the look of the Scirocco, but love it in R guise. An Edition 35 or a Scirocco R? It would be the R every time.

I totally forgot about the ED35 reading this im now more interested in what you do for a living...

The ED35 doesnt look special enough to hold a basic £30k price tag. Id let the wife choose which car she wants as the daily and chop the others in for a GT3.

theres so many hyper cars out there for that money! M3,M5, M6, 997s jags to name a few! there is no way on this earth id pay £35,000 for a golf!

I paid 16500 for mine 2.5 years ago from VW in Essex with 18k on the clock. Thats about right i think!!

I'm not in the market for an Ed35 but was bored at work so had a dabble with the configurator.  Does anyone know why you can't specify the 19" wheel option and a sunroof?  It says they are incompatible and I can't think of a good reason why.  Like I said, I was bored....!

The price seems to be a common issue. There is the usual compare to used but how about compare to other makes and models new and there prices. All mainstream car makes models prices have gone up loads in the past couple of years and the two VAT rises have not helped. Just look at how much a bog standard car is now adays new.

I don't see how you can complain about the price. If you've specced up any new car recently you'll know anything half decent costs a lot of money nowadays. Heavens, an A3 with decent kit is high twenties, a 3-series doesn't really get going until £30k. I don't really get the phrase "it's just a Golf", it's a premium family hatchback with a reputation for being pricey!

I have to add I bought a new mk5 gti in may 08 brand new and paid £19400   cash 3dr red  6 speed with leather and sold it cash 18 months later with 8k miles for £16k cash, there has been some  big increases but i would think 8-10 % discount against list should be negotiable ,

I dont think the comment its only a VW is relevant you pay your money and take your choice, from my understanding it is the old ed30 engine thats reasurring as it must be good still but thought the VW boys may have had something a little bit special for such a special event

BTW I am a civil servant and married quite well

Correct! Dealer offered £11.5k for mine but would stick with price even though the Ed35 would not arrive till Jan 2012. They tried telling me they wouldn't make any money on mine as it would probably lose £2k in the meantime!
Also told me the Ed35 is going to be very limited and will only make a couple of hundred.

I have the reason supplied to the dealer from VW but....  :jumping:

Golf GTI ordering restriction: 19-inch Glendale alloys
23 May 11
0682-11

Optional 19-inch Glendale alloys cannot be ordered in conjuction with a sunroof on Golf GTI because of a weight restriction on the model's front axle.

The brochure and price list will be updated at the next reprint. Volkswagen.co.uk will be updated by the end of May.

It looks similar to other VW dealer bullettins. Its was posted by someone from a VW dealer who has kept people informed about cars and helped the other forum members out many times over. Including myself.
It maybe BS sent to the dealer from VWuk but from who posted it i would say thats the official line.....
