ive got a mk5 golf gt tdi 140 and atm the rear looks poor tbh. i parked next too a gti the other day and noticed the spoiler sets it off so much better. I was wondering does a standard gti spoiler fit the gt tdi?
-
Yup, the GTi spoiler will fit any other non GTi hatch Golf mk5. :happy2:

Avoid the poor GTI/R32 roof spoiler !!
You need a different 3rd brake light and furthermore GTI and R32
are known for wet brake light probs.
So go for the easy to fit Votex spoiler like Joe did. This one is also
aerodynamically much better shaped.
:happy2:
-
I've got one ready to go on mine mate, make sure you get a good one tho. There's a lot of cheap ones out there.
To fit all you need is some body adhesive and leave it for 24h.

A little confused here, are you saying the spoiler pictured above your post is a vortex one? I have heard about the issues with water ingress on the brake light though?
-
It's a Votex spoiler, I bought one a few weeks back for our Golf (yet to be fitted).

There shouldnt be any problems with the brake light as it just wraps around the brake light, or have i missed the point?!
-
With the OE spoiler you also need the fitting 'strip/bracket' this attaches to the tailgate first (IIRC it is only bonded on) the OE spoiler then clips onto this bracket and just the corners of the spoiler are actually bonded to the car.

Is vortex OE? Just to confirm, the part number for the vortex boot spoiler is - 1K0 071 640 and does someone have a picture of one fitted to see the difference? Also, does anyone have the part number for the GTi boot spoiler?
-
Yes, the one on the pics above is a VOTEX (not VoRtex).
So no issues with water like the GTI/R32 roof spoiler and easier fitment.
Votex ist the former name of ''Original Volkswagen Equipment'' OEM or
''Volkswagen Driver Gear''. On the forums most people say short ''Votex''.
-
What sort of money is the votex spoiler?
-
hmm interesting ill have to take a look at the vortex ones then.
thanks alot people ;)

I paid over the odds to be honest (Im not 100% what they are worth!), around £100 but it was was local to me and I hadnt seen any more so just took the plunge!

I spent an hour searching last night but I couldn't find one! :sad1:
The Skoda motorsport spoiler I have on the vRS is not as substanial as the Votex one in the first pictures. That was just over 100 quid from the stealers, so I think you did alright. Just having a quick look, the GTi/R32 spoiler is over £150.
-
There very rare i think! What about this spoiler off the VW site? (its the first one)
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/owners/accessories/sport-and-styling?mark=golf-2004-2009&offset=10&max=10
Think thats the same spoiler!
-
That's the roof spoiler we're talking about.
-
I think I will just contact the stealers or TPS quoting the part number in the picture - 1K0 071 640 and see what they have to say.
-
I'm struggling to find a good spoiler, would it be better to find one from a breakers? And is there a difference between the GTI and the R32 spoiler?
-
No difference. R32 = GTI = R-Line.
The Votex is a different thing (and much better aerodynamically).
Removing one of these from a car at the breaker would be time consuming and risky.
So this wouldn't be any option at most breakers.

Hi mate like the suggestions that have been made I think it comes down to personal taste I just put a genuine r32 rear spoiler on the back of my tdi. I bought a damaged tailgate and care fully took the spoiler of with a scraper and heat gun gently warming the glue like stated on hear its only bonded on at the ends but be gentle as the plastic is a little brittle . The other part is like a located which again is bonded on this is a little harder to remove but can be done with a little patience . I was told by vw this is part of the spoiler although its seperate it can not be bought seperate I may stand to be corrected. It's worth putting in a new light with a little clear sealant to try stop the water problem and even if you need to change it at some point it's quite easy to break it out and fit another one . I used fix all high tack to glue it goes of like concrete, give me a shout if you need any more info .

Going to view a 3 door mk5 1.9tdi in grey this weekend, if all is well i will be buying it!
VW dont have any spoilers on their site anymore! Can anyone link me to one please? Im clueless here  !
And anyone know of any good sprayers in birmingham who will do a good job on it?
Thanks
Vish
