Title: Cleaning Detroits
Post by: jamesDM on September 05, 2011, 02:21:36 pm
Can anyone advise me on what is best to get to clean my Detroit wheels, they are obviously black with a matt/satin finish. The one wheel I have is brand new and slightly more matt than the others, do you know what is best to use to polish it slightly so its not so matt to blend in with the other three?

Cheers! :happy2:

They just need good preparation. Make sure that you apply a good two coats of sealant, plus a couple of coats of wax before they go on the car. They wash very easily, but sadly they don't stay clean for long!

Re the polishing - it's only temporary but Dodo Juice Red Mist Tropical gives them a nice shininess - though I prefer the matt finish.

One of mine is slightly damaged and will probably need a respray. I'm dreading it because I don't think they'll all match.

You do need to be careful with these as anything with any kind of cut, or too much pressure when applying or buffing will make them a lot more satin-like and lose the original matt finish.

I used to just clean them with warm soapy water and apply either a coat of collinite or Dodo SN wax.  :happy2:

That's great, thanks for that!

I have been looking at Poorboys sealant, supposed to be quite good.

I haven't had black wheels before so all new to me.  :happy2:
