Is this the correct and legit way to get a RNS510 fitted? These guys decent, seen them recommended them on here. Prices seem reasonable
What steps need to be taken to get bluetooth working for my iPhone through an RNS510, or is this not an option?
Still quite new to the Mk5s and VW in general after coming from a french background with cars.
Sorry for asking what is probably a very simple Q.
-
You can get them from eBay or various other sellers around the forums.
Fitting is reasonably straight forward.
-
Is this not a recommended website? Not too keen on buying expensive electrical goods 2nd hand from eBay. A lot of them are supposed to be a bit sketchy from Lithuania, Poland etc?
-
I didn't say it wasn't recommended. I suspect their source will be the same as others.
Bluetooth can be added, it requires a separate interface.
-
Some of the ebay sellers have been around for a while now.
I bought a MFD2 quite a few years ago for my Mk2 Octavia from Lithuania and it was spot on and I believe it is still going strong now.
As long as it's a seller with decent feedback I see no need to worry.

Ok Cheers guys, will no doubt be asking more questions soon lol

Fiscon bluetooth kits........
http://www.kufatec.de/shop/index.php/cat/c315_FISCON-Bluetooth-Handsfree.html
Not cheap, but very good, know a lot of people recommend them....
-
Actually I have an OEM 730D bluetooth kit. Keep it OEM if you can. :happy2:
-
I have a Fiscon Basic Plus and I must say its an excellent handsfree. No voice control on the RNS, but I can't say that bothers me in the slightest :signLOL:
-
Met someone other day with the Fiscon......can I just confirm...
Basic < shows on the highline only?
Plus displays everything on the head unit as well?
In a nut shell
-
Correct :happy2:
-
Coool.
He didn't want texts etc popping up when he was in the car with the mrs. :signLOL: hence having the basic
-
The texts don't pop up in any case mate! Only phonebook, numbers etc (though apparently it works on some phones)
But :notworthy: sensible choice.
-
Oooo I thought one of the fiscon's allowed full text facility on the RNS unit?
but yes, he was worried about her eitherway :signLOL:
-
The plus does, but it doesn't work with all phones (not iPhones in any case)
-
I have the Nokia N8 < seems to have issues with many bluetooth systems!! Pain in the a**e at time.
I get texts and it drops the connnection :jumping:
-
Can't reply to any PM's yet btw people.

Is this the same one as the one from my OP? £500 rather than £600-£700 is quite a saving and it seems quite legit.
-
Would wait for a 2nd conformation....BUT the add is claiming a C version unit.......as I believe the C version has the 'star' button in the top left hand corner, this one does not. I personally think this is a B unit.
B - Standard screen
C - Newer LED screen
-
That is an early LCD version C unit
If you are going for version C, go for the later LED ones.
-
Thanks guys.

This meet the criteria?
-
You need to be on the ball when shopping for the RNS-510s from eBay as many sellers list the units as 'C' units and so one would assume that it is an LED unit, however, this is not necessarily the case as if you update the firmware to one of the later versions a 'B' unit becomes a 'C' unit. So in short don't just go off the part number but also make sure that there is a little star key if you want the LED version too.
