Title: Hi Guys
Post by: will130787 on September 06, 2011, 10:07:23 am
I posted in the intro section too, but I had a couple of questions too.

Is it cool to join in on here even though I have a GT Tdi 140? I am a prolific member on 306gti6.com having owned a couple and lesser cars tend to be flamed!

Any easy mods to carry out first?

Looking at wheels, what is the fitment on the mkV? 112?

Anything to look out for?

Why can't I reply to for sale adverts?

Thanks in advance :)

Thanks Mark, I was looking at TT wheels so would obviously need spacers as they are 5 x 100 iirc?

60 miles a day means diesel unfortunately, not my cup of tea as a rule :(

We have all been there. Just take note of the offset of the TT wheels as they can be lower meaning they will stick out further and potentially cause rubbing issues. The Golf GTI Monza 2 offset is ET51 but you can run slightly lower ET's :happy2:

Just read through your build thread and I like it a lot!

How does everyone sit with re-maps? Seems to be a lot of turbo issues after mapping?

Issues are more to do with the turbo than the mapping, standard PD140 cars have massive turbo failure problems but thats not to say that a bad remap cant cause a failure.

Look out for 'owl or siren noises' or a if the car likes to go into limp mode a lot, especially up hills. This is an early warning that all isnt well with the turbo.

Cheers for the comments--the first turbo went like Dave says, then this time it hadn't been repaired right

So if I map we can safely assume that the turbo will go? Can you transplant a 170 pd turbo onto it? Presumably there different....
