Hi new to this forum basically i am starting to modify my golf gt sport diesel. I would like some coilovers or springs/dampers basically i want good handling rather than going low. I have seen alot of lowered cars bouncing round and that isnt what i want.
I have never bought after market suspension before so want to get it right first time i hope Ha ha.
Reason aiming for coilovers is there height adjustable so can dial it in better to suit me, as dont want to catch my bumper or sump.
Any help or experiance would be great.

Bilstein B8 dampers with quality springs such as Eibach or H&R with a modest 30mm drop and excellent road manners / handling imo :happy2:
-
Koni FSD shocks with H&R springs is what I run :happy2:
-
cheers any pics side on, i noticed they said it would lower the car slighlty more at the rear than front with springs, i didnt want this due to putting gear in the back so i was going to run the rears slightly higher with coilovers.
I may have this wrong still looking into it, whats wheels are you running 18" or 19" i presume 19"s dont handle as well.

How do you find the FSD's and you got any info on the H&R's that you used :happy2:
This has been somethign that I have been considering, initially thinking coil-overs for the adjust ability (keeping the front to rear rake despite rear load) but the FSD best of both idea appeals as well
-
Rich, they were already on the car when I get it mate, so no info from where they are from :sad1:
BUT, I do rate the ride, comfort and handling very well (had coilovers on previous cars). And I dont think I've read a bad thing about either the FSD's or the H&R's :happy2:

Cheers Damogen, would have been good for a comparison compared to standard but good to hear that its good for both ride and handling. :happy2:
-
koni fsd's are they adjustable rebound etc or all preset, just not heard of fsd model.
-
preset they arent coil over just replacement shocks over standard, but they have a valve inside that opens or closes dependent upon the frequency of the suspension movement, so short hard movements allow the valve to open so the shock absorbs the bumps and then on longer frequency movements like the pressure applied through cornering the valve is shut so that the shock is more resistant keeping the car flat its supposed to give you the best of both worlds.

get the bilstein b12 kit with eibach sportlines - GNJ motorsport will give you a good price off here :happy2:
-
how much lower is sportlines? Where are the company based

What's your budget?

think is 40mm, GNJ are based in Lancashire but post out nationwide no worries - PM him
-
to be honest didnt want to go higher than about 700 as would like to get rear anti roll bar etc to help with handling on the whole or thats the idea at moment.
-
i've got Weitec Hicon GTs. the only thing i can compare them to is my stock S-Line suspension and it's slightly more comfortable but you get MUCH less roll. they probably don't improve the handling but they certainly give you much more confidence to fling it about. i got mine 2nd hand and paid £400 for it, and paid £275 to fit from Midland VW in Cannock (top blokes btw) with a full 4 wheel alignment. they've totally transformed my car, i'd recommend them all day.
best of luck in your choice!
-
thanks mate thats great, not to bad a price for them fitted with alignment,
-
- VW driver gear spring with Bilstein B6
- Eibach Pro springs with Bilstein B8 (or B12 Pro Kit > it's the same)
- Bilstein B14/B16 coilover
- Sachs Performance coilover
I've driven most of these combinations an now run the Sachs Performance.
-
I've used KW and H&R coilovers...both excellent quality and offer a good level of ride comfort.
-
i'm presuming the bilstein and sachs coilovers are probably £900 and above. Whats your favourite set up upto now?
-
I've just fitted eibach pro kit shocks and sportline springs on my Ed. Looks great with no loss of comfort, parts cost 450 new
