I've had my GTI for a month now and this has been happening for the whole month. Not too worried and sure it's normal but when I have the car running idle at traffic lights etc I can feel a wobble/vibration, from the engine, going through the base of my seat. Nothing major just a wee tremor everynow and again. Is this normal?
PS The has just had the coil packs changed and ESP pump changed, so it has has been run through vagcom.
-
mine does this. apparentley its pretty normal for these engines :happy2:
-
Phew! (Wipes sweat from brow). Thanks.
-
You sound as paranoid as me lol. Always wondering if something is wrong with my car
-
Aha. So true. The car is under warranty for another 2 months so it would also be good to get niggling issues out of the way, just for peace of mind.
-
I'd change to the new latest revision N PCV unit.
about 35 dollar.. :happy2:
-
@Saint Steve Sorry for my ignorance, what is a N PCV unit?

If mine still has the original PCV will it be doing any damage?
-
no, but it will it would idle like a pig, and if you have dsg, when sat stationary in D, you'd feel it vibrate due to the idle speed being too slow on idle.
I changed mine, and found it idle'd better sat stationary, ie at the lights with my foot on the brake. Normally you can feel if its in Gear, but after i replaced my PCV, i had a job to tell what gear i was in!.
Its only £35 quid. Takes less then 10 minutes to fit, and if yours is the origonal, proberly worth you changing it. Have a look at your service receipts if i were you.

Or £85 for a BSH one with catch can to help prevent your intake valves getting covered in crap (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Ftfsi_mike%2FFunnies%2Fwhistle.gif&hash=f9b1349f94dcbc5f90b3a299f3534e12203878ba)

A blank you mean :star:

mines a 2.0 tdi, and it does the same same thing weird idle. Obviously yours are the 2.0t petrol just starnge similar fault
-
Mine does the same a little judder at idle i have a 1.4tsi my inlaws does this aswell they have a 140 gt tdi so is this just normal then?
-
What is the latest version of the PCV unit? and how do I know which version I have?
Also would this ever throw up the engine warning light?
-
^^^^ As I Posted. N.

@Saint Steve I'll check my log book tonight
Apparently when I bought the car it had a 'Gold' warranty on it that runs out in February. For a start I don't know what a Gold warrany is. I have search the interent and found very little knowldge apart from a private company that covers all parts. Would the PCV be covered under this I wonder, and more to the point, what the hell is a Gold warranty lol
-
Its the flywheel that is causing it to wobble. According to my mechanic and AMD this is a common issue and won't go away untll the flywheel is replaced.
-
@daboy3000 Would this be covered under warranty and is it causing any damage teh way it is? From what I have read there are 3 possibilities: flywheel, engine mounts, pcv valve
-
I'm no expert, just another one suffering from the same thing, also known as seat wobble. AMD said to just do it when the clutch needs changing and it won't do any harm. I don't know whether the warranty would cover it, depends who its with and proving that is the issue, would be a lot of money to replace it as a trial and error type thing.

I thought it was my engine but if yours is a petrol and mines diesel maybe it is the fly wheel or sumet, only thing is mines speradic sometimes its bad other times i cant feel it.
-
Same, only there sometimes. I've just added it to the list of shody Vw build quality failings. Like the hot start problem or the alarm siren packing up!

Ha ha i bought one because there ment to be bomb proof maybe not so perfect

Similar thinking here

When the PCV is at fault you'll know about it. There is a very slight little 'beat' at idle, usually when the engine is hot, that is felt but not registered on the rev counter that is a normal characteristic of these engines and nothing to worry about.

I've had the same symptoms for a while 2004 GT diesel. Fly wheel would make sense as I felt the clutch slip a couple of times last year 60k on original clutch and flywheel
Have a look here post 171

This describes mine!, am hoping this is just the case! does it get any worse with time and did it bring up the engine warning light?
-
No warning lights up on mine. May get the garage to check it out, although as some people have said, they will probably say it's normal. If there are any MK5 GTI drivers here in NI, it would be good to meet up and compare. Only real way of telling.

A simple way to check if your PCV is working properly is to pull the dipstick out slightly when the engine is idling and if the revs start hunting up and down, you know its ok.

Good tip. Oil cap too me thinks
-
My 1.4 Scirocco does it too. Sounds like it's very common across models and engines. Weird!

Just removed my dipstick @ idle...
Made no difference, still the odd hiccup and fart and pop...

I'll give mine ago tomorrow.

Air leak? :sad1:
-
Taking mine to the dealers this week so they can run a few tests. There is also a misfire so could be a few things. Fingers crossed I don't have to part with any money. Need to keep that for mods, not just keeping the car running.

when i removed by dipstick the engine went to stall and when i ran vcds i had an air leak fault code.
