Hi all, if you have followed the 335d thread you will see that my appetite has been whetted for a 3 series coupe.
I have been looking at the following 2 owner car (both brothers and I have talked to the latest owner) , car is now main dealer supplied, full bmw warranty for a year, two new tyres, MOT and just serviced.
Heres the spec of the 335i I am hoping someone in the know can advise of their opinions,
£19,500
Registration Date March 2008
Miles 9407
Colour sparkling graphite
Interior Black Dakota leather
19" double spokestyle 225M alloy wheels
Adaptive xenon headlights
Auto transmission
M-Sport leather steering wheel
Bluetooth phone prep
Brushed Aluminium trim
DAB digital radio
external mirrors Folding and dimming
Extended storage
High Beam assist
Loudspeaker system BMW business
Park distance control front and rear
Seat heating front
Downsides are for me that there is no iDrive or satnav and that the mpg may be a bit worse than the 24-30 I think I get now in the GTI.
Sorry for new thread start but I hijacked the 335d one rather rudely.
I only do 8-10k miles per annum so the leap to a 330d,335d whilst would be good takes me away from what I am comfortable paying for a car.
I have been here for 3.5 years and have come to respect and look forward to all forumites opinions.
I would normally plan to keep the car for 4 years.

all i will say is 3 series coupe

hope that helps :signLOL:

Only 9407 miles on an 08 plate , thats a great mileage. Sounds good too me :happy2:
-
That wont be a DCT box will it? So it the auto may be the weakest point but other than that go for it. Sat Nav is desirable but if you don't use or can live without it (as I can) then I wouldn't be put off.
-
The step auto box is rather good, easy to fit a quaife diff into as well
All seems like nice spec but having nav+big screen makes using the stereo, bluetooth phone, car settings, service stuff etc... So much better. After having it you wouldnt want to buy a bm again that doesnt have it. I say go and try a car with all of the satnav and toys on and see if its your thing or wether its not something that is important to you.
Or buy my 335d next month
-
ping me your 335d details matey. I think its an 07 though yes? I was looking for newer, in fact at an 08 that is one of my concerns to be honest.....ping me the details anyway and what you are looking for. Trouble is of course, I would have to sell mine on and from the great cars I have seen hang around here for some time think that a slim chance in the current climate.
-
The e90 straight sixes get my vote, the 335x engines in particular

:happy2:
@ 8-10k miles a year, wouldn't a petrol make sense?
-
My 2p  :happy2:
How much is a the same car but with Nav etc? If its big bucks have a think to yourself do you really need/want these extra's but bare in mind when you come to sell the car it will not be worth the same as a car with the nav etc.
How much is a 335d? Work out the cost's of the savings on mpg against the price difference in cars. But if your anything like me you'd be happy to pay a lil more fuel wise as I just love the feeling of a petrol. I just could not get on with a diesel no matter what I tried. :happy2:
But most importantly are you happy in yourself with the figures given and the actual car? Part ex, cost per month etc!!! If you are go for it :happy2:

Lovely sounding spec and low miles as well which is ace!
Like I said in the other thread it might be worth holding out for one with Nav/iDrive on it as it does more than just Nav (kinda like the Bluetooth/Highline computer on the MK5/Leon/Octavia/A3s)

Would it not hurt you come re-sale time that there is no Navigation on a high end model? It's a buyers market especially with a big petrol engine car.
-
Thanks all. Resale well I may pcp the car anyway and like now I'd normally trade rather than deal with the donkeys that don't turn up, mess you about or take endless calls from agents.
An equivalent 330/335d with low miles is, well I've seen as much as £8k dearer! (with nav)
There are other private examples about less than 8k dearer however again involved and a private sale.
I'm struggling to let go of this baby but the lack of nav may bug me, not because I need nav cos my mfd2 gets used 4 times a year to find places, but for the nicer dash and other functions).
There is no rush really. I'm going to compare a manual 123d sun or mon get cos when I originally set out it was one on the list.
My gti is FULLY loaded and it's hard to go to a car that's not similarly specked. That said the above 335i has a great spec apart from no nav or idrive. Pity. :drinking: thanks again guys it's a big help.
-
I wouldn't let the low miles sway you too much, so long as it has been looked after - you can find a better spec car for the same money with "average". I paid less for my 135i which is the same age and better spec.
It isn't miles that kills cars, it's age.
-
^^^ wise words mate thanks.
Tho' I'm frankly amazed people keep saying "better spec", apart from nav what's it missing?
-
IMO its all about what are you in to car wise mate, i only had my 3.0l E90 M sport 4 months and moved back to a golf, its an amazing car in some aspects but very disapointing in others, if all you want is a comfy quick saloon coupe with toys its great ! if you like a bit of fast cornering and fun its not the best as far as BMs go !
I see the people BMW are aiming at with all the 3 series range and if you fit in to that group you will own one of the best coupes / saloons there is, IMO the only two that make sence to me are the 320d and M3

Yet again the old hatchback came into its own yesterday, needed a new dishwasher....slipped straight into the back of the golf....
I am seriously rethinking my new car requirements.

Ed30 cough  or Mint pirelli :happy2:

Are you set on a bmw? As the S5's have really come down in value recently for 2008 and newer. Just a thought.
I think both the s5 and 3 series coupe look amazing with right bumpers. (Autovogue kit especially)

I had my 325Ci while renovating a house. It proved to be an amazingly versatile car - more so than I ever remember the Golf being. Granted you wouldn't be able to put any white appliances in it, but how often does that occurrence arise anyway. I had it loaded with all sorts of stuff.
Given the choice between a Golf and a 3-Series Coupe I'd choose the BMW. I've really fond memories of my old one and definitely plan to get back in one sometime soon.
-
Recently I have stacked a garden patio set with 4 chairs (non folding) parasol and glass top into the car, the week after a KING sized double bed and memory foam mattress! a Keter Store it OUT XL and to top it all a new Bosch dishwahser! lol
NOT all at once of course, every other weekend but the golf is a car that just keeps giving.
I want a 2008 or newer really for my next car, 2008 is even pushing it to be honest.
-
what about a 130i 5 door?
-
whooops....new car on way....
2009 330d Msport auto Highline with all the toys....
Got shafted on the trade in though but a good price at the other end...so whilst I hate to give my GTI away for £7500 I am getting a pretty good deal. Pics will follow.
I'd love to sell mine privately and give it to a decent home, but I pick the new car up on Thursday :drinking: :star:
Cant say how much I will miss my gti I really can't. it was and is a perfect car. It is just time for a change. Anyone looking for a 2005 (55) MY 2006 DSG GTI 3 door Tornado Red with every single extra (except recaro hard backed seats), just serviced, mot fgr full year, 4 new ps3s, give me a shout you could be in for a huge bargain.

I know someone who is looking. Yours sounds just what he's after. Have you any pics?

Congrats on the new automobile!!
Not driven the 330D, had a go in a 325D and a 335i also an E46 (I think 2004) M3 and numerous other variations, really like the BMWs. Not get saving for some snow tyres for the coming months :signLOL:
-
Nice one power AND economy is a winsome combination. To be honest £7500 doesn't sound too bad for an 06 plate. They have taken a huge dip recently it seems.
Wouldn't mind one of these myself but the snow in Aberdeenshire puts the fear in me - snow tyres or not. :sad1:
