Title: Miglior Detailing: Gaz's Ibis White S3
Post by: JPC on March 31, 2009, 03:26:03 pm
Hello there,

Here we have a gorgeous white s3 booked in for a for a correction detail, as you will know, this is our very own gazbuts3's beast.

The was in pretty good nick already as gaz uses the two bucket method, there were a few deep scratches, but mainly swirling that could be corrected in one pass.

First up was a snowfoam and rinse down. Then washed with two bucket method .

Once the car had been washed, it was clear to see the car had a lot of tar on there.
To ease with this I sprayed the car with tardis and wiped with a microfibre cloth. This got rid of the vast majority, and anything else remaining was removed with Meg’s mild clay.

Then the car was rolled into the unit and taped up and it was clear to see there were some issues needed sorting.

As VAG paint is pretty hard, after a few different experiments with other polishes, it was decided 3m Extra Fine Compound and a tiny bit of Fast cut plus was to be used. This was being used on a yellow waffle weave fine cutting pad.
This gave great results and gave a LSP ready finish.

A quick 50:50, which proved quite hard with my lights with the white paint!

The more intricate bits were dealt with a 3m spot pad. These were followed up with Ultrafina on a blue 3m waffle weave pad.
There were a few areas needed refining, where a greater cut was needed, thus leaving slight hologramming.
After the correction was finished, the car was dusted down then cleaned up with IPA (isopropyl alcohol) to ensure the best possible bonding of the Last step product.

The LSP of the day was to be Zaino Z2 with ZFX. 3 coats of this with Z6 between coats and a final wipe down with Z8.

Cleaned the exhaust with #00 wire wool and Autosol.
Cleaned the windows with Megs window cleaner
Dressed the plastics and lights with some Zaino Clear seal
Sealed the alloys with Zaino Clear Seal too
The tyres were dressed with Swisswax Pneu.

Total work time 11.5 hours!

Cheers Jay :happy2:

I would like to say I was/am more than pleased with the results and would like to vouch for Jay and his work, his perfectionism and hard work were first class. The car looked amazing when it was done and has given me the enthusiasm to try and keep it this way. I learnt alot from him too by asking lots of stupid questions

The car is so much easier to clean now, nothing sticks to it , and is still beading nicely a couple of months or so later

once again cheers Jay :happy2:
