Title: Show me your watches (or timepiece to be PC)
Post by: Edition30 on September 14, 2011, 12:24:38 am
There was a thread some time ago with quite a few of members fine watches. I can only find 2 previous threads but they dont have that many replies.

I also said I didnt see the point in wearing so much money round your wrist but im slowly coming round to wanting a nice watch. Knocked drinking on the head so I wont be worried about damaging it when pi$$ed up now  :signLOL:

Very nice JPC

Loving the Omegas...Cant remember who it was but they had about 5 or 6 in their collection.

Also has anyone had any trouble getting watches from America?

Looking at a Luminox F177 Nighthawk 6402 Blackout - (Amazon UK £715) (Amazon America £378)

Or any other similar style watch recommendation...or reputable sites to order from.

Some very nice watches, glad to see that we not only have taste in cars but also mechanical watches.

It still baffles me that the chronometers are 100% mechanical and automatic wind.... and fits on your wrist  :notworthy:

I have a few TAG Heuers, and a few work watches (SUUNTO, G-Shock's, UZI, Seiko etc).  Got a Seiko Titanium Dress watch too.

This is my favourite, I bought this is in '92, and have worn it regularly ever since.  Had it serviced about 5 times.

TAG Professional, simple and stylish.

I think I will get an order in for christmas for the Luminox F177 Nighthawk as a daily watch. Really like the Omega Seamaster with the orange face aswel. Think that will have to be at a much later date with some of the events I have planned for next year.

Anyone ordered from America, elsewhere? Or is it simply google and buy the cheapest?

I bought mine from the states! Need to be careful of import tax! They sent mine as a repair as in, I already owned it! Otherwise I think the tax was nearly 1800 making it more than here!! In the end it was 19 quid! Very happy!

Eminem G-Shock from the states.

Also the very first G-Shock, Pininfarina G-Shock, Seiko Kinetic.

Should have bought a Tag Heuer when I got married in Barbados as half price but bottled it!

Also was offered a Bentley Breitling for half price at a proper store while there.

My mate collects Oakley and has most of the watches except the new one $10000 or something around that!

Thats what im worried about. Its nearly half the price. How much is import tax? More than the 20% VAT? Did you request that they sent it as a repair? and from which site?

Mine was ebay, did a lot of research on not only the watch but the compnay. You are covered via paypal for fakes and also my credit card!
I said i was unsure regrading the import tax and they said its not full proof but sometimes fedex dont always get the strictest test from customs as some of the cheaper couriers!

You have to be very careful when buying watches. Always buy from a good quality jewelers, no matter how tempting the price is.

Rolex is as good as a gold bar for an investment.....

Got my explorer II in Jersey. The same movement in it was the first mechanical thing on the top  of everest....back in the day....sort of takes the expression if it ain't broke to the next level!!

Worth about double now what I paid for it 6 years ago.

IWC are a fine watch. Up there with if not above rolex for quality..

Regarding value enhancements, when I bought my IWC, I could have bought a nice Paul Numan Daytona for £8-10k !..........

Old Rolex's have really climbed through the roof !!! The best value for top quality movements IMO are Jaeger LC.

Totally agree! I feel the IWC cases is superior but when it comes to movement only thing that beats Rolex is patik Phillip

I would defo go for a Rolex if you don't want to lose money! It's even more prevelent at the moment with the interest rate. It's like wearing your savings on your arm

There is a dealer on ebay I got my Citizen Skyhawk from.Excellent service.
I was looking at the skyhawk AT and promaster SST at one point. But then I bought this:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv55%2Fstealthwolf%2Fcb62bc2d.jpg&hash=6f3112ad6e15284096ae6fdf53efd13fd6f8c2d1)

Like vrs carl's but with a green dial instead of blue. Used for daily wear.

I also have one of these as my "special occasions" watch:

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fv55%2Fstealthwolf%2Fradosintrachrono.jpg&hash=e0d2df121a94e71fac5c37a9706cc19a14674eb7)

Not really much of a watch-wearer though.

Indeed some nice watches.

Know this statement will go against the grain, but I just don't 'get' the Rolex thing.
I know they are classy, retain/increase in value and well made but I honestly think they're a bit naff looking.

Might be due to the number of fakes that are out there meaning that there are loads in circulation but I see a Rolex and think you have to be at least 60 to own one.
I just have the image of Bobby George, the bejewelled darts player in mind when thinking of the standard Rolex owner.

My list: 2x TAG's (1x Chrono, 1 x Battery) and a recent Oris Chronometer, purchased on a whim, as they sponsor the F1 Team with the same name as me - Williams, currently doing pretty poor in F1.

Current watch lusting is for the Panerai range, I think they look pretty cool.

Think my reasons for buying one is I always wanted one as a child. There are a lot of fakes about that's why I always wear mine in the pool/sea!

I also feel its a whole brand thing! They also started a lot of ideas with wathes and are one of the few who only make internals for their watchs. Lots of others share! The Rolex watches you are thinking of are normally big gold affairs.

I agree with the panerai! Lovely pieces.

Have a mate of mine ringing his cousin and see if he will buy me a watch from Amazon.com in a bid to avoid high import tax costs. Decided on a Victorinox Dive Master.

Not an expert on watches at all and have never dared spend much on one for worry of losing it, smashing it or getting mugged..

But I got put on to a good website by my MD (who is a big fan of watches) and bought this little beaut for a little over £200..

Yeah i'd definitely have to invest in a winder box as i can't wear a nice watch for work as it has to be 100% non conductive material, auto would only be on my wrist the odd evening and at weekends so i'd probably get fed up of setting the time!

Yeah. Its a shame they dont do a automatic "relay" watch, like the seiko quartz watches. You can leave them for 4 years, then shake it and it set its self back to the right time.  :notworthy:

I bought mine on a whim. Saw it in a shop window marked down from £500 to £200 and thought "That seems too good a bargain to miss". I'd never have bought it at 500 nicker, so the money spent by others here on watches timepieces blows my tiny mind!

Another Tag F1 here. Bought this in February this year, as a birthday treat to myself. Love the watch and wear it daily. Initially went in to get the Red Bull Edifice Ltd Edition but once I tried this on, there was only one winner for me.

Thanks guys  :happy2:

I bought it as a graduation prezzie for myself. Having now found it on the Omega website, they no longer produce this watch. Not sure if thats a good or bad thing

The dealer I bought this through had to order it in, and said he had never seen the watch before despite being a dealer and selling 1000's of omega's over the years. I guess I got lucky.. it was  at first sight

That Aqua Terra looks very nice , might have to get myself one of those this year

I am not a massive watch man myself (unlike my brother, who has around 50 of them )

But here are my 2. The Omega was a gift from my father and is a classic, its probably around 38-40 years old I think As i'm pretty sure my father got the watch when he was either 21 or 25, it is due to be serviced soon and has not been worn for about 12 months (hence wrong time)

The Armani watch was an impulse buy at Geneva airport around 12 years ago as i had money left over from my Snowboarding holiday

This thread will end up costing me a fortune!

And as for the Omega seamaster aqua terra, my word!   :happy2:

My modest collection has changed slightly as i have changed to a rubber strap on my 'old' F1 so that i can use it as a daily for work, only allowed a non conductive strap due to working around high voltages and seemed a shame to have it sitting in a drawer at home, so had it fitted whilst it was in for a service (MUCH cheaper via the Tag outlet for both items if anyone is needing one)

I'm really happy with it and it means i get to use the watch every day now which is nice, much cheaper from a TAG outlet if you have one nearby as they will suppy and fit for £73 which was almost half the cost of online retailers i'd found

I don't have any Pictures but do collect watches ,I have two Submariners, two Daytonas  and one Explorer 2 42mm white dial My first proper watch was in 1988 a beautiful Omega speed master  cost me £725 and sold it in 93  for £795.

The guys on here who don't get the Rolex thing ,Here is my experience  I think hand on heart i can say I have never lost a penny on my Rolex fetish.I have bought a couple of Breitling  and been proper burnt  ,don't ever buy a new Breitling always buy used at as low as you can get it for ,it won't be low enough but at least it will be damage limitation .

I remember being on hols in Malaysia years ago and looking at Tag copies in a market. When I told the vendor I was only looking he prised the back off the display model to illustrate the quality and it had Seiko internals. First thought was I would still get a half decent watch for about 12 quid. Second thought was hang on, what if the Seiko bit's fake as well!

I know a couple of us have Omega Planet Ocean's on here.  Have you seen the price now £3800!!!  I paid £1600 for mine approx 3/4 years ago, after getting a couple of hundred pound off.  Well chuffed with that.

I noticed that too, you can't buy a second hand one for the price I paid for mine new about 5 years ago! I think the latest version of mine is nearly £6k, I only paid £2.3k for mine after some great discount! :surprised:

The new ones are different spec tho, so you cannot really say that yours/ours have increased in value that much. (unfortunately)

Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean

I have the same as This and a 20 year old TAG HEUER 2000.

The newer ones have slight deference a to MINE. You can still get the one above for About 2800

Not meaning for this to drag on, but where is that for retail £2800, best I can find is £3045 reduced from £3800, this is not the ceramic bezel model, its the same as mine.

My watch originally had the orange bezel, but I got it changed to black when I had it serviced, as I think it looks better.

You need a Flickr account or similar and paste the BBCode into a post mate.

My 2003 'Bond' Seamaster.  Not really into watches, just bought it 15 years ago because I liked the look of it.
