Title: Hel Brake Lines Dont Fit
Post by: edition_30 on September 14, 2011, 04:20:33 pm
Just purchased a set of hel brake line for my edition 30 & my garage has told me that they don't fit as the union's appear to be different.

I purchased the kit for the gti which included the lines for both front and back.

Any Ideas?

R32 hoses have an angled banjo connector so it's not a 32 kit!

The kit i have been sent is for the gti, but from this thread it mentions that i may need the r32 lines for the front.

Can anybody confirm?

Have you got r32 front brakes? If so you will need r32 HEL lines!

Thats the GTI kit, HEL direct dont replace the hardline like I do on the R32 kit.

Fronts should fit ok on a 312mm caliper, HEL dont have the correct fittings for the rear caliper, I've mentioned it once or twice.

Having said that its not beyond the realms of possibility/reasonableness for your Garage to blow the dust of a FILE! and take whatevers required of either the fitting on the hose or the little lip thing on the bracket on the reaqr which prevents them from fitting properly.

Never bother with the rears tbh they're only 5" long

No point really changing the lines on the GTI brakes!

Is the brake setup on the ed30 the same as the gti?

I would have thought the install would have been straight forward as I have seen it mentioned often on the site users upgrading the brake lines.

Is it noticeable from my pic why the lines cannot be installed or if I have been sent the correct kit

I think DaveB touched on the point with the rears. I bought a HEL rear line kit for my Skoda Octavia VRS (so same idea as the MkV) to go with the S3 calipers that I was fitting.  However, I noticed that HEL provided a perfectly circular end-piece to the lines (i.e. the ends at the bottom of the photo) whereas the hole that they were to pop through on the silver bracket on the caliper were 'D-shaped with a little groove on the flat part of the 'D'.  I therefore ordered some S3 rear lines which were exactly the same as I suspected. However, as DaveB mentioned, I just took a largish circular file and made the 'D' into an 'O' and they popped through and clipped in place. Not really a biggy but a bit of a hassle when, as mentioned, the braided rear lines don't really do a whole lot.

So spare S3 rear lines in my garage if anyone interested.
