Title: SteveP's New Daily / Project No. 2
Post by: SteveP on September 17, 2011, 08:35:35 pm
Has arrived

Bit of a rubbish start due to the dealer losing the service book/manuals pack and locking wheel nut key, then forgot to tax the car and add the service plan  :fighting:

But the drive home made it all better  :driver: :driver:

The car has been seen by a few forum members today and the boys from KPM, and if Pie's had his way would have got the car stage 2 mapped and part stripped out by now

Pic's and full details to follow tomorrow when it's been cleaned properly  :innocent:

The spec is as follows: -

1.4TSI 180ps DSG
LED DRL Xenon's
Climate Control
Sensor Pack
Convenience Pack

Basically as close to the factory spec I would have ordered as I could find.

Multi-function steering wheel buttons (R Line versions in gloss black to match the rest of the trim) have been ordered and an RNS-510 and bluetooth to follow shortly.

Performance wise I am going to try to drive it for a bit but I am sure the calling to get it mapped will be too strong to resist

Looks really nice, I think out of the trio the polo looks the best. I had a test drive in a Fabia vrs and the engine is sweet. How do you find it compared to mk6 gti you had?
Title: Re: SteveP's New Daily / Project No. 2
Post by: SteveP on September 18, 2011, 06:28:07 pm
I think the 1.4TSI sounds better than the 2.0TSI in the Mk6 and the initial urgency and low down grunt from the supercharger makes it better around town, hasn't got the legs to pull all the way to the red line like the 2.0, and in the higher speed ranges you really feel the difference

A question for Eddie or Darren, do you know if it's possible to retro fit auto headlights to the Polo 6R?

If you get your vag-com lead out steve see if there is any option in the BCM for it.

The Rain Light Sensor is the same as in the golf.
The interior mirror in the polo is only listed for the polo. so that might need changing
Do you have a light switch with auto?

No auto setting on the headlight switch and the connector on the back is different to the Golf's, had a look on the BCM coding earlier and couldn't see anything that seamed related to the auto lights, there are settings for coming / leaving home.

Cheers Mate, after a proper wash and claying the paint didn't look as good, lots of fillers in their polish me thinks, but pleased how well it's come up after a quick going over  :happy2:

The polos are quite scaled back on the electronics front :( Not even an option of highline which it really should have!

No light sensor either or option of - we looked into this on the Polo forum im part of

Overall a great little car though. I keep meaning to go up the local stealers and take one out for a spin to see what they are really like, though id probably make the salesman sh*t his pants!  :signLOL:

LOL Steve. Didnt see this thread on here. Just posted this on UK Polos.

Steve, you just purchased this from Birmingham VW (Johnsons) from under my nose???  :fighting:   If its the same car, which it looks like it.

I was ready to leave a deposit on it, when the guy at VW called me back to say it had been sold, after i had been trying to work out a deal all day, after visiting it the day previously.     It was a great price, considering only 4500 miles on it as an ex-demo. They had another CW which they offered me, but the options on it were not as good and it was commanding strong money (as much as i got my brand new one for through work).

Oh well, not to worry. Its meant i have ordered one in the exact spec i wanted from work instead, as i preferred CW.

Enjoy!!!

Ive ordered:

Candy White 3dr
Convenience Pack
Sensor Pack
Bi-Xenons with DRLs
MFSW
Climate

Steve, out of interest, how much were the MFSW buttons? I might cancel it as an option if they are cheaper to purchase separately.

You 100% on that steve - as far as I was aware, it was a midline, and VW still don't  list high line as an option on the site/brochure.

The only difference is having the MFSW which gives you control over the hidden parts.

Depends on what you class as highline, to me it's a full height graphical display, midline is a part icon part graphics display. The 6R GTI comes with a full height display.

Steve is the polo not same has the A3 dash? on the A3 you can change the functionality of the highline from full DIS to low and it will only give you so much info a bit like the midline with just the MPG and so on?????

Lovely car Steve....and in the right colour too

Nice and light too at around 1200kg with a full tank of 99ron.

You like what I do about the car too. That supercharger makes all the difference for the set-off in comparison to a turbo. I also agree that it needs a little more oomph up top too.

Can't wait for mine to land in blighty. :jumping:

Darren

The dash appears to be closer to the Mk6 rather than the A3, but you can access multiple stats (mpg, oil temp, range, digital speed, etc) from the default menu and by holding the up selection button for 2 seconds you get to a selection screen to go into the Vehicle status, MFD or setup screens, so to me it's still highline

Certainly is I think with the mk6 gti wheel you should be able to make use of the buttons and extra menu's? Very nice though Steve, there's a CW one down at the local dealer and every time I go in I'm drawn straight to it

Thing is my wife has turned round and now said she wants a car that I don't have to modify :signLOL: and give me the go head for a mk6 GTI/GTD but not till next year so I don't know which way to go Polo or Golf????

That can only go wrong Darren
Does she believe that herself??
I'll say within 6 month of ownership you'd have taken it apart at least one time  :signLOL:

True, but a £55 set of buttons from eBay.de is far better than the £255 VW charge for it as a factory order  :surprised:

As the car already has DSG paddle as standard it's a very easy thing to do

I know its a better buy for you to do it. I mean VW should have put the buttons as standard on the car, not offer them at £255.
After all the skoda has them and it is nearly £3k cheaper

your R piano black buttons look good and suit the car nicely

Looks great Steve. I get 10% discount on the options for my car through work, so the wheel has worked out to £180. However, i am tempted to change my order and get some controls separately instead. But on the grand scheme of things, it might not change much. And i still need to get someone to code it properly afterwards, not having VCDS myself.

Did you change the plugs while you were there as well? If so, which ones?

It's awesome with the remap, makes a big difference to the little car  :driver:

Low down it seams more urgent and it now pulls much better up top too where it felt lacking before.

They also found my car was running an earlier version of the factory code so that go updated too.

I need to order the plugs, the ones Revo recommend for the 1.4TSI are NGK BKR7EIX's

Not sure, I am just going to order the NGK ones rather that searching out the nearest VW ones as it will be cheaper that way.

Yep, with the exception of the voice/phone buttons (as I haven't got bluetooth or RNS with VC yet) all buttons work

Time for some updates

First up the prototype/development ITG filter was installed on Friday

(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Fkk207%2FStevep_010%2Ff5bb2702.jpg&hash=9683e9104c49261b4375d257efe670e04e2f1746)

Has made a noticeable difference and a surprising amount of induction noise for a closed filter

Then off to KPM for a brew and some H&R Springs, went for the version with the extra drop (better pics to follow)

More parts are also on the way to sharpen up the handling some more :driver: :driver:

The 1.4TSI is fantastic engine I think.  These are in dier  need of an intercooler upgrade.  3 runs on the dyno and my peak power was 9hp down from the first run.  I might speak to andy @ITG and get one of those right angled hoses.  I reckon my forge intake could be rotated like yours.

What's the plans with this one steve. Guess you don't need to hunt big power or crazy handling with the golf parked there

Despite the reports of issues with the 1.4TSI I genuinely believe with a good map it's a great little engine, it's doing 42mpg+ on the way to work (when I am sensible).

Remaining plans are stage 2, Turbo Back Exhaust, Front brakes, Rear ARB, a few poly bushes, RNS-510 and a rear camera kit

There's a good 6+ guys on SCN who sold up their cupras after having nothing but issues, with a few others reverting back to stage 1 due to misfire and running issues on stage 2.  We might be lucky though, the cupra has been out a fair while so hopefully vag have ironed out the/ issues of the early cupras

Alot of the scn guys reckon the misfiring got worse after about 5k, and chose to swap plugs at that point which iirc cured it temorzily so i might try the same as I've just gone over 5k.  No misfire issues yet though. I do have the cold start issue though, but i just need to book in with skoda for the new update.

im just about to order plugs now.

Took mine out today just for a look and was pretty shocked. The ground electrode was marked white on cylinder 1, 2 and 4, but cylinder 3 was completely white.  They obviously get very very hot.

Steve do you know the correct or recommended spark plug gap?

They Should have the production parts finished in 3 weeks.

I am very impressed with the increase in throttle response and the increase in the top end urgency the car now has. The feeling of the slight lack of pull between 5-6k has totally gone   :happy2:

im not convinced about the performance of the Forge filter.  The filter itself is actually pretty small, and just looks like a a cheap knocked off version of the CDA intakes but with a forge plaque bolted to it.

The filter element on the ITG is rated to 300+ bhp so more than enough for the Polo :happy2:

On the plugs I left the gap as they came out of the box.

I think im going to try a before and after on sharks rollers and find out the actual difference.  for example previous dyno run (Dynodynamics) was 210hp/260lbft with stock intake.  On JKMs it made 213hp/234lbft.  id rather lose the 3hp but gain 30lbft torque
