When fitting the RNS today.....noticed I had two options............
Connect either....
1) The GPS receiver to the back of it?
or
2) Connect the RNS to the sharks fin on the roof?
Does it matter which one?
-
sorry but this is a pointless question.
if you have a factory sharkfin for gps why would you use an aftermarket one that has to be hidden under the dash
-
? To me it isn't.....
The car (got it today) has a sharks fin, I was not sure if this COULD be used as the GPS plug in for the RNS?
-
use the sharkfin, it will make a big difference to the signal you get and the number of satelites it can lock on. people only use the little puck as running the cable and installing a sharkfin when you have a bee sting is complicated and raises issues with the secondary aerial as all the cars have two.

Not all sharkfins have support for the GPS
-
His car does as he upgraded the factory mfd2 to an RNS510

:happy2:
Thank you.....! The other reason I asked is as follows.......
1) if I use connection for the the shark fin into my RNS....would I not need to keep this connection spare for future add ons....bluetooth or anything? should I keep the GPS square thing as a back up?
2) How many items can I run through the shark fin? as I have a pre-heating thing is also connected to this?
3) I have a amp thing fitted under the drivers seat http://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,35089.msg426146.html#msg426146 I have read in some cases I need to by-pass this, but I have no idea if I should, if I need to....or how to? is it causing more harm than good?

No because the GPS uses the Blue GPS plug, a phone kit would use a red plug
depends how many connectors are fitted to the antenna
The box under the drivers seat is a diversity switch for the mfd2, I bet you have an open circuit fault with one antenna. You need to bypass it to clear the fault for good

I have no errors I can see. Eddie.........?
How do I by pass this unit? :scared: is this box specific to the MFD2 only? does it not have any plus factors for the RNS?
