Title: The Jetta failed its MOT - DAMN
Post by: Degudodger on September 23, 2011, 04:07:11 pm
So i took the Jetta in for a MOT this morning at my local Skoda dealership (nearest to me) and it failed on a faulty door mirror repeater. I knew it was broken and it has been for a couple of months now but just haven't got round to replace it. I have a new replacement unit so it looks like i need to spend some time on the car over the weekend.

I bought the car in October last year and in the last 12 months/25k miles all i have had to replace are the front tyres so really can't complain.

Man what an ordeal!

So went about dismantleing the door mirror and all was going well until the last screw which was beyound rusty, in fact i managed to round out the head just by putting the T-10 into it. Two hours later with a dremell and the screw is removed and drilled out  :happy2:

All in all it took me nearly 3 hours to replace the indicator unit, if i hand't needed to drill out the screw it would have been nearer 30 minutes.

Lets just hope it NOW passes the MOT!

So now i have to decide what i am going to do with it. Sell or keep.....

Sell
Needs some TLC to interior ideally a new rear seat due to a cigarette burn (there before i bought the car but didn't notice as it was covered by the seatbelt)
Needs a new B Pillar trim
Basic stereo and will need a new Gateway to upgrade
New alloys as the current ones are flaking
Covered 115k miles, 23k in just under a year but mainly motorway miles.

Keep
Complete service history
50-55MPG. I once had 60MPG but had to drive like a granny for a week!
Comfortable and spacious with a quality feel
Looks better than a Golf - (wait for the abuse)  :P
Surprisingly quick for a TDI with only 105bhp
Enough toys to keep me happy

I want another car but with the current fuel prices and my daily commute of 70 miles a day i would have to get another diesel am not sure i can justify the outlay for a 140/170bhp when we may be immigrating in 18-24 months time.
