Title: What’s the problem with GTi high level LED Brake lights??
Post by: G-Lader on September 27, 2011, 09:01:31 pm
As per the title, I’ve heard there is a common problem with water ingress on the GTi / R32 high level LED brake light mounted within the tailgate spoiler??

I’m just waiting for the last bits to get finished off from the paint shop before I start fitting the GTi front end, side sills, R-Line rear bumper and I have both a new Votex roof spoiler which uses the original LED brake light and I also bought an R32 rear spoiler.

I quite like the R32 spoiler but I’ve heard that the LED is prone to water ingress resulting in it failing...... :sad1:
Does the GTi / R32 spoiler have some method that allows you to remove it from the tailgate if you have to replace the LED as it doesn’t look like it gets bonded on like the Votex Spoiler?

Is the problem due to people who pressure wash their cars or is it a hit or miss??

I don’t want to go and fit it only to have the problem of trying to remove the bonding to replace the LED in a few years (or sooner??) as if this is the case I’ll just fit the Votex one......

Thanks in advance!

I did mine the other day! As everyone else says, I have no idea how it clips in but it just does! Worth the 35 quid not the 400 VW charge

When I changed mine I took the pins off the new one and put a load of tiger seal behind it. Can't tell a differance now :)
