Title: Cam belt on a GT TDi 170

When should i have this done? It's in at VW at the min and they have rang me to tell me that it needs doing.  Thye want £350 to do it though.  What is the going rate?

mine is nearly due,been told by vw 4 years or 80,000 miles price is about right but they advise to change the water pump the same time wich cost £400

Girlfriend had hers done at 43000 miles/4 years old. Belt and pump £330 using an indie garage and genuine parts (I think)
  Always change the pump at the same time as belt. Peace of mind for a few extra pounds

Most VW dealers do fixed price servicing, mine doesnt tho but haggled it! :wink:
think cambelt was £319 and with pump £399.

Soz can't find the link at the mo but its on VW website in servicing.  :smiley:

yeah i've had the cambelt and water pump done too while it's with VW, 400 sheets lighter though....
