Title: That black shiny thing on your door !
Post by: Fletch..gti on September 28, 2011, 04:00:30 pm
I noticed today that the black shiny gloss peace on my
Door as a chip in it . I have put a little paint on it but am not happy.
Do vw sell these and are they easy to replace or do
You have to have them painted ??

What's a shinny thing?

Seriously you can buy the shiney part from your dealer and it won't need painting.

Some one posted the part number. Think you're talking about the plastic covers for the B-pillar. There's a thread on how to change it over too.

Peel back the rubber weather strip and there are a couple of screws.....simples!

I wrapped mine in gloss black vinyl while on the car -

Get em' wrapped once repaired mate, protects and looks smart (IMO)  :happy2: I went for the carbon route so between mine and Pagey's pics you should be able to decide which material if you decide to go down the same route.

Defo carbon on the GTi, gloss black fits the more 'classy' GT spec imho.   :happy2:

I replaced mine because it got scratched. It was about €35 IIRC. I changed it in 5 minutes. The only tool needed was a Torx screwdriver (T20 I think).

I can get you the part number. Which door and how many doors do you have?

I think I might wrap mine in gloss black!

Allready have the windows tinted and got a more door so think the gloss black will give it that all black look from front to back!

The part numbers listed in the other thread are not valid part numbers. 1K6 refers to the trim for the rear doors but the rest of the part number is different (1K6 839 901 A).

My ETKA is the current up to date version btw.
