Mine is on and the fault is Lambda sensor 2 (post cat)  :happy2:  About £150

So it obviously wont cause any damage if i dont fix it straight away if your driving with it on?! Is this all it would be or possibility of something else?

Thanks for the reply

I asked a couple of people and being Post cat it's more of a 'checking' sensor to bring on the light and was advised it wouldn't do any damage.  Ordering on on pay day as I have a new DP to fit too.

Best to get a VCDs / fault scan to be sure / safe mate as it may be sensor one or a faulty Cat

Hi mate,

Quick update....went out to move my car about an hour ago and the light is no longer staying on!!!!
Could it have been some crap petrol or something?!
Do u think it's still worth scanning it or would I be wasting your time?!

Not meaning to disagree with John (above) but I would have thought that if the tumble flap has failed, the cel would remain illuminated.
IMO you should try a basic setting adaptation of the Intake Manifold Runner with vcds (detailed below) then rescan for fault codes after a short drive.

Prerequisites:
Ignition ON
Engine OFF
System voltage at least 11.0 V.

[Select]
[01 - Engine]
[Basic Settings - 04]
Group 142
[Go!]
Activate the Basic Setting.
[ON/OFF/Next]
Wait until Field 4 shows "ADP. O.K.".
[Done, Go Back]
[Close Controller, Go Back - 06]
Switch Ignition OFF for at least 60 seconds

Scott... has the light come back on again? Your more than welcome to come around again and we can try that basic settings adaptation that BACILLUS suggests.

It will probably clear following the Basic Settings but may well come back. These were problematic on the early BWA engines.

It wont clear without doing Basic Settings.

I just did this on my mates GTI, BWA engine on a 2006 car. Same faults, the light came on and off. I did the basic settings for him yesterday so we'll see if that helped. I did an output test on it as well, you could hear it operating. The car did feel quicker and more urgent, but it's all subjective.

Hi,

Sorry been out all day!

Rich...No the light hasn't came back on and the car seems to run fine!!

I haven't got a clue what i'm doing with it just suggestions from forum members...

Is the advice that 'Bacillas' gave if the light was still on or now even though its gone out?

John, taken your comments on board, will just see what the general opinions are...

Ive had this on mine before.  Basic settings wouldn't run, but a simple unplug and replug of the flap motor allowed basic settings to be carried out and fault was cleared.  This may save people a few quid if the basic settings won't run.

no disagreement here  :happy2:
the wiki states things to try first (the adaptation) , if that works and keeps it off then  :pomppomp:

So without doing the reset i should expect it to come back on soon?!

Not necessarily but IMO  it's best to do the adaptation to make sure the hardware is working at correct spec.
