If I'm going the K04 route I need to upgrade my clutch at the same time when fitting the LSD.
Which clutch do I go for Helix or Sachs?
Also, some people say carry on using your existing DMFW or buy a new 1 and others say go for a SMFW
Apparently the SMFW causes gearbox 'chatter' whatever the fu*k that means :signLOL:
I'm looking for the cheapest and most reliable option for a car that will mostly be used on the road (no track days etc.)
Any help would be most appreciated.

Your garage will advise you on if you need a replacement DMF when seeing it(Which by your planned use will be upto the job & reliable)
I did need a new DMF as the 'give' / play in it was too much too risk leaving it in.
I have read & heard however some tuners say theyve never seen one that needs doing.
I have been very happy with my Sachs upgraded clutch kit & OEM provided and fitted by VWR 40k miles ago...
A slightly stiffer pedal feel but feels more purposeful, I hate light fluffy over assisted pedal feel on brand new cars
SteveP recently had the same decision to make on DMf /SMF & clutch kit, he opted for Helix & SMF I think, do a quick search for his thread or drop him a PM

Thanks Mike.
So your DMFW had some play in it? Did you go for another DMFW or get the single 1?
If you got a new DMFW which 1 did you go for? :happy2:

My original OEM DMF had too much play in it. I replaced it with another OEM DMF. I would consider a SMF clutch kit next time round but I forfeited comfort when Fitting coilovers and solid engine mounts and am focusing my modifying on performance
Hope that helps :happy2:

I've just been out in my smf s3 8p and my gf says the car is fukt you need to get this thing into the garage as i think your engine is due to fall out! Smf is not for you by the sound of it. Stevie.

Even my DMF is very noisy but I hear every noise due to the BSH mounts and VWR Race mount
-
This sounds like an absolute minefield!!
Mike, what was your mileage when your DMFW had too much play?
I want to have all the parts to hand when they do the job......I don't want to have to worry about what to do if/when they saythe flywheel needs changing :scared:

Mine was at 20k of spirited driving, premature IMO given the number of peopl that say it would be okay to leave the original DMF and the tuners saying theyve not seen many that needed doing.
It was expensive from Seat dealer at circa £550 but I wasnt risking it letting go and needing another clutch DMF & potentially gearbox...
It would only take a day to get in if your tuner decides / advises you need one, although fairplay for you wanting to be as prepared as possible.
There are cheaper places to get the DMF from, I think it was TPS that was suggested to me but I have a reliable friend in seat parts and I needed it doing asap so ordered it through him.

I'm running the Sachs uprated clutch kit with standard OEM DMFW and cant fault it :happy2:

Are you still on the original DMF? :happy2: How many miles had you done when you uprated the clutch
-
Yea, original DMFW, Mike. It had done just under 50k when the clutch was replaced.
-
Is unusual then that VWR thought mine needed to be replaced at 20k  Oh well. Will be changing DMF next time round too for piece of mind

I had the Sachs organic performance clutch and Sachs SMF fitted yesterday. Orginal clutch and DMF was shot at 33k, been running stage 2 bluefin for about 20K. I have driven about 120 miles with it now and yes there is a stiffer action on the pedal and it bites very low down, but cant say Ive heard any chatter or significant increase in noise levels!

So I guess the verdict is if you're running K04 stage 2+ you can't run the original DMFW with the updated clutch cause it won't last long at all?
All the feedback on the SMFW is less than appetising, so WTF to do
-
The magority of people running stage2+ 2.0TFSI run a uprated clutch with the OEM DMFW...
-
K04 or K03
There are some major threads about people burning out their OEM DMFW after 10K miles running stage 2+ on a K04

Both k03 & k04.
Lots and lots of people over on SCN with mk2 LC running stage 2+ with that setup..
