Title: Project Gadget
Post by: gadget on April 04, 2009, 09:07:36 am
Well second visit to my mates at APS on Wednesday.

First on the list was removing the Res section of the Milltek and fitting the straight through
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_0995.jpg&hash=b563b215bbdc38367e99f4969c9499efef23e083)

Then we started on the rear suspension by fitting Eibach Springs and Eiback Anti Roll Bars
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_1011.jpg&hash=44d08a37874290a4ab025f0b1ae82c1eb29224b7)

Now up the front, with new Wishbone bushes. These where replaced with S3 versions which are a solid bush
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_1008.jpg&hash=a4d86d16517562dd8b14bcb342e4c2b31bb4ca27)

Springs and Anti Roll Bars also changed up front and while wheels were off we added a unique bit of advertising for APS
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_1002.jpg&hash=c17dddc2f989856e22e728115312aec4a53cc0ce)

Next was a full 4 wheel alignment with front set to neutral and back with a bit of negative camber to help on the bendy stuff
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_1021.jpg&hash=7a23e45b554f6486a7bc0e8953ad2fc70323668c)

Now drop the ramp down for some bits under the bonnet

Engine cover removed and Forge DV fitted
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_1013.jpg&hash=2b9b5c05c53d11f067183ef27155718cf2858d2d)

Engine cover back on with a dry Pipercross installed and a nice Carbon Speed Air intake added
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_1020.jpg&hash=cd050cdca885960aab3d4b4fadab3a0826329486)

Car handles really well now, exhaust is just right and intake has made a suprising difference.

Lots more to go but have to save up some more pennies first.

Thanks to all the guys at APS Andy, Ed & Nathan for there hard work

Coming together nicley  :happy2:

How have the Eibach ARB's made a difference to the handling? Oh and just to confirm, when you say you removed the res Milly I take it you just meant the res section and not the whole system?

ARB's seemed to have helped body roll, I have got them on the aggressive setting but still not uncomfortable.

And sorry exhaust removed just to take out Res section. :happy2:

Excuse my ignorance, but how have you dialled in negative camber at the back, when the OEM mounts aren't camber adjustable? Also, isnt the negative camber meant to come from the front wheels to enable a better turn-in??

The back is adjustable if you look properly and in fact the front isn't so it is just checked.

How it is adjusted is on the inner bolts on the lower arms. The bolts are fitted with offset washers. Also the top arms are adjustable as well. Running negative on the back has a rear steer effect on the back (I think thats right although I could be talking BS)
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2Frear1jpg.jpg&hash=f760adabe0619cfcf13834eebec069d5d2c325d5)

You can see the upper arm offset washers on this picture

They won't be red I am afraid. I normally go the OEM route even on my project Touran but this one wont be.

You will have to wait and see but this will be another (https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2Fimageswap5.jpg&hash=9285b9baae4beecd475e5dd62e845036350db7f2) project

Alright Keith,

They where about £50 and are the BF Goodrich ones. Reckon it could be the hoses combined with new pads all round.

Bloody Bongo drums......
Wasn't able to take pictures till today and never had chance to clean it but here they are.

Special thanks to Alex at Chameleon for a fantastic job. He didn't even moan at the fiddly bits.

Front Splitter and grill done in Carbon Vinyl and then the finishing touch to carry on my yellow theme Yellow is the new red.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_3015.jpg&hash=6c83e3b33e3c83db4bd0f871af53ad36323df5cf)
Bit closer
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_3020.jpg&hash=40fa8ed937d7b8a2180c8638db9651fddfa3f585)
Now the back which Alex suggested doing under the badge.....Very glad I agreed.
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_3022.jpg&hash=abfdf4c306a7393004e043ed136b16a5bc55a514)
Then the lower valance, I had noticed on a couple of Edition 30's the finish around the exhaust wasn't great so suggested leaving it around there but Alex said "How about Yellow?" so it had to be done
(https://www.mk5golfgti.co.uk/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fdaz.co%2Fmedia%2Facegadget%2FEdition_30%2FIMG_3014.jpg&hash=f7659a2f57276b2185b2b8bcdfc79039460863a8)

He is great and nothing seems a problem how ever hard it is. The bit round the exhaust was a right b*tch but he just persevered.

....Same here except that I don't like any of the yellow bits - Sorry! I'm just being honest and all that matters is that you like it.

What I don't like about any colour strip around the zorst tips is that it draws attention to their state of cleanliness - You'd need to ALWAYS keep them absolutely immaculate as if brand new.

LOL no chance with me but the yellow will go with the BLACK that they normally are. Great think about the vinyl is if my taste changes I can just tear it off

And Robin you are a Carbon junkie so I knew you would be ok with those bits.

He mentioned he had done yours but my badge was different as it never had a cut out like yours but still managed to get it off.

Looks wicked with just Carbon underneath.

I'm also not keen on the Yellow Trim around the exhaust... but everything else is super spanking  :pomppomp:

Must admit I am not sure on the yellow around the tailpipe but I think it stands out because there isn't alot of it.

I will leave it till I have painted the EDITION 30 in the rear badge and then see what I think.

The main reason for the yellow is due to the Yellow calipers on the car.

Anybody going to Edition 38 this Sunday will be able to gauge for themselves.
