I need to make a new air pipe for a induction kit on my mk5 gti. does anyone know what diameter the aftermarket pipes uses ( im guessing its 2.5 or 3 inch) does it cause any problems with the air flow meter?

Which intake?

I was inder the impresion the intake pipe could be anything and providing the pipe that runs past the MAF is the sMe as standard it shouldn't cause any issues??

ye thats right I just need to know what size the pipe is that runs past the MAF on a standard GTI

^^^ The section that the MAF runs through on the standard airbox isn't round it's oval IIRC. Most aftermarket intakes use a round pipe that matches the same surface area.

The oval measures 79mm by 53.5mm internally and the circular dimension from the intake is 75mm externally. I just measured my old engine cover. Hope that helps. Rob
