Title: Fitting new brakes

hi guys,

relatively new to the modding world. I give some things a go myself, but my brakes are not something I'm willing to experiment with!!

I've called my local VAG specialist who has advised me that it'll take 5 hours labour to:

1. replace new discs on all 4 corners;

2. replace the pads on the rears;

3. fit the NQS BBK on the fronts, with pads;

4. fit steel braided lines on all 4 corners;

5. replace the brake fluid.


does this sound right?

also does anyone have any recommendations for the best place to get some Motul RBF600 (and how much i'll need)? so far forum supporter Opie Oils has the best price i can find but as a benchmark their Castrol Edge 5w40 on special offer is more expensive than Asda's regular price so i'd imagine there are cheaper places.

just wanting to know if the above jobs will take 5 hours to do? seems like a lot.

5 hours would be for a non skilled person. But depending on how long ago your brakes has been serviced last it might be a PITA to do, so i assume they want to be on the safe side  :happy2:

vaguely related question:

when my next paycheck comes i'm buying some brembo drilled discs off Dave B to fit with the kit. this might sound like a n00b question but i really don't have a clue when it comes to brakes (or anything else, come to think of it  :ashamed:_

anyhow i've seen a really nice set of wheels that i LOVE, but they will not fit  :sad1:. 18x8.5 ET32

i've notced someone's selling a set of VWR brakes that come with spaced bells so you can lower your offset for caliper clearance. can this be done the other way around? can you get shallower bells to increase your offset so you don't get any poke? cheers for the help guys

I certainly haven't seen a brake set up with shallower bells, but DaveB is the brake guru, if anyone knows, he will.
