Title: Reverse light problem
Post by: robby on October 12, 2011, 07:33:32 pm
I've noticed today (couple of days after major service at VW) that my reverse light isn't working

I checked the bulb which is fine (checked with another to double check) and can't see a fuse listed in the handbook

Is there anything else i can check before having to go back to the dealers?

The reverse light is controlled by the CECM.
I would say it is 1 of 3 possible things

1. The switch in the gearbox is not sending the signal to the CECM
2. The CECM is faulty
3. The wiring from the CECM to the reverse light is damaged

Thanks

Asked a mechanic the question today (didn't have car with me) and he said to remove the switch connector and bridge the 2 wires together, i did this and the light worked so this means the switch is faulty?

how does the switch come off as it looks like a green plastic connector not a screw in switch as i've seen before? don't want to snap it by using force

Have a look at the ones on e bay, you'll get an idea of what you're dealing with. :happy2:

Called back into the dealers today to mention the switch problem, the advisor told me it just screws in and takes a few minutes so i order the part.
He then asked if i wanted it fitting so i ask how much that would be (thinking he wouldn't charge as they missed it on the service) - £28.50  :surprised:

when i asked why it was so much as he said it takes a few minutes to fit (his words previously) he then said it's because the undertrays, etc need removing????

you can get to the switch from the top  :stupid:

picking switch up tommorow and i'll fit it myself  - fecking stealers  :fighting:
